North Carolina's Rowan-Salisbury Board of Education voted unanimously Monday to allow students to carry pepper spray, with one member advocating its use against transgender students in a comment about the anti-LGBT law HB2.

School Board member Chuck Hughes (photo) "referenced HB2, saying that the sprays might be useful," the Salisbury Post reports.

“Depending on how the courts rule on the bathroom issues, it may be a pretty valuable tool to have on the female students if they go to the bathroom, not knowing who may come in,” Hughes said.

You know, I can accept another Bush presidency, even if I completely disagree with his policies and his way of calling up the French in the middle of the night to talk about Gog and Magog. Speaking of the Carolinas, former South Carolina police officer Michael Slager was just slapped with federal indictments for his murder of Walter Scott last year.

quote:

Michael Slager, the former South Carolina police officer who shot and killed Walter Scott in April 2015, has been indicted on three federal charges, according to court records unsealed on Wednesday.

Slager, 34, is already facing state charges, including murder. The federal indictment, first reported by The Post and Courier, serves as an alternative route to convict Slager in Scott’s death, and marks one of the few times an officer who shot and killed someone while on duty has been indicted on federal charges.

The federal grand jury charged that Slager shot Scott “without legal justification, willfully depriving him of the right, secured and protected by the Constitution and laws of the United States, to be free from the use of unreasonable force by a law enforcement officer.” Slager also faces charges for using a weapon during a crime of violence as well as an obstruction of justice charge. Slager allegedly “intentionally [misled] South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) investigators in statements he provided in connection with SLED’s investigation” of the shooting.

Slager allegedly “knowingly misled” investigators when he “falsely stated that he (SLAGER) fired his weapon at Scott while Scott was coming forward at him with a Taser.”

Giving the dumb gently caress bail seems like a bad judgment call.

Plus the guy burned the bodies specifically because he was afraid to go to prison for killing them. You don't give someone bail when part of the crime is that they willingly and knowingly tried to destroy all the evidence because they are afraid of being caught. That's a huge red flag for a flight risk and maybe the guy won't try to run but the judge is still crazy for not considering the guy to be a flight risk.

You all really do have this weird idea of how media narratives work.

Like no one would say "well but Hillary won't release her speeches," in context of "Trump is refusing to do the thing we've made every nominee for president do for like 40 years, even in the infamously secretive Hillary Clinton has released like 16 years of tax returns."
