In this case, you have people with names and voices and inventories, who you can add to your party for missions -- they have a set party limit so you won't always have a full group -- but in larger scale assignments you'll also be assigned regular soldiers to accompany you. They don't carry over between missions so they're essentially disposable. The named units can die or be upgraded, though I've also recruited a few in the course of the game. It's sort of an RPG I guess but it's also pretty groggy too. They definitely marketed it like a tactical wargame anyway

Graviteam Tactics: Op Star question (though it likely applies to both). Having more or less gotten the hang of the controls, I've just started my first campaign in Op Star and I'm a bit confused. I started as the Germans on Volonovka or something like that since it's a good, basic campaign. I start with with 3 PzJg I's and some infantry to the north of a Russian held village, and some infantry to the south. For the first campaign turn I attacked from both the north and the south. For the first battle, I fought as the forces on the north side and won a total victory, while capturing most of the key points. After that battle was over - and on the same turn - I fought as the forces from the south... and retook the exact same key points which were now Russian again. Again, I won a total victory and by the end of the second battle, the town and all its surrounding points were captured and held by me. So, I advanced to the next turn and, lo and behold, the village is still held by Russians. There seems to be zero continuity to the campaign and all my hard work has been wiped away. Am I missing something?

Grog.txt Relearning Flashpoint Red Campaign Rising Dragon Whatever by playing the tutorial alongside the step-by-step pdf and some base level things are different. The pdf mentions fog for x meters and 13 minute turns and the fog is a few hundred shorter than listed and the turns are 16 minutes. Also the placement of mines/road blocks differ from what the pdf shows. If I ever make a grog game I'm writing a scripted tutorial in-game that doesn't suffer from this bullshit. As a separate executable of course. Gotta stay true to your antiquated roots!

Yeah when that deal first happened I was thinking that maybe Paradox could improve upon AGEOD's interface and pacing by adopting more of an EU/Victoria model.

It's not THAT bad. It's bad and somewhat broken, but it functions and doesn't crash and the UI is nowhere NEAR CK1 levels of impenetrability. Also I can't think of any other studio that has post-release support near as good as Paradox.

Stellaris: AI doesn't invade, trade, or interact with you in any meaningful way; sector features are mostly disabled; mid game and late game content including quest chains mostly disabled; notifications cannot be changed; massive amount of bugs; etc. When do they say all this will get fixed? September, for a game released in May. I think it will be a good game when they do get all the issues worked out and I really like a lot of the design decisions but it is probably the worse release they've put out since Hoi3? That had a massive memory leak and it took them 2 or 3 expansions to get the AI to be able to amphib invade. Saying 2 of the last 3 games were functional on release is drat faint praise imo.
