Anyone have any suggestions for something similar to Iniquity's Serenadium album? I didn't care for their other two efforts.

You should also listen to Gorement, from Sweden. The Ending Quest (from 1994, and sadly their only album) is fantastic. Great songwriting, and in case it looks familiar, yes, Bloodbath eventually ripped off their logo.

2/3 of the classic Welcome to Hell/Black Metal lineup - Abbadon (drums) and Mantas (guitars) - fronted by Demolition Man, who replaced Cronos for Prime Evil. Having seen both, Venom Inc was much, much better.

Venom plays a bunch of medleys and stuff from the last few albums they did, along with the essentials from the early works. Cronos works the crowd 80s style, which works quite well considering they've got the stature and pretty much only play festivals. Nothing against the other guys, they play fine, but they're passengers and don't do anything for the stage show nor interact with the crowd nor the band at all. Not bad, but in contrast to the other one, they're very much lacking. They feel like a burned out, filled out, old band.
Setlist: http://www.setlist.fm/setlist/venom/2013/former-sonar-compound-baltimore-md-13d9a579.html

Venom Inc plays Prime Evil, Warhead, Die Hard, and the rest from Welcome to Hell and Black Metal. Basically, the ideal Venom setlist. Demolition Man is so drat gritty he's almost too dirty for Venom, and he's got such a heavy English accent you can hardly understand a word he says between songs. He's a solid frontman. Mantas works the crowd, too, and in a much less over-the-top way. Very appropriate for Venom, but a bit less retro than Cronos. The thing with this band is that they really work well together, they've got energy on the stage, they go back and forth between songs, they do everything well. The guy who really impressed me was Abaddon. He's got so much energy and enthusiasm on stage, he plays great and hits hard, but that's like second nature. He goes back and forth with the crowd, does call-and-response gestures, and he just really gets into it with the crowd. Not just stage moves, he's loving it when people run into each other around the guy holding a cup of beer in the middle of the crowd, laughing when someone slips on that guy's beer, shouting back with the people shouting to him. He hung out in the bar after the show until closing time, recounting the show with everyone who stayed around. The only other guy who I've seen have the pulse of the band and the crowd was Jim Konya.

Well, I didn't expect Terminal Redux to channel Pink Floyd at the end of the album, but here it is.

Yeah that jumped out to me when listening to it; "Did the player accidentally shuffled an 80's era Pink Floyd song in there?" The vocal melodies especially are really gilmouresque, reminds me of Floyd's 'On the turning away' especially. But I'm not complaining, it's fascinating and a pleasant surprise, as is the whole album. All in all, quite brilliant stuff and it is wonderful how they manage to make a something that sh/could be stale and tired sound so fresh, energetic and interesting.

I've never heard of Winterhorde ( from Israel  ) before but it's...good? It's weird, good, kind of strange prog melodic metal. I guess they classify as "progressive extreme metal", so there's a mix of cleans/screams sometimes going on over-top of each-other with tons of orchestral work going on at the same time. It makes me think of Fleshgod Apocalypse if they were more like Wilderun or something.

http://vicisolumrecords.com/album/maestro

I THINK I like it but there's something about the way it's cobbled together that's kind of hard to get into at first.

The first 2 minutes of Anti-Path feel like there's too much proggy melodic stuff going on at once and then at 2:15 it breaks down into some kind of grindy black metal, then turns into violins & acoustics at 3:10, then back to a kind of death/black after another minute, then back to the style of the first 2 minutes.

The title track is probably stronger ( but more proggy ) over all, I love the intro that turns the train chugging into percussion, and there is a killer solo/instrumental section starting from 2:45 - 4:21.

[edit] They have 7 band members. :psyduck:

I could never get into Orphaned Land but Melechesh are fantastic yeah. I guess I was more  by the fact it is a band from Israel who's name is "Winterhorde", because I don't think of "winter" when I think of Israel. Not that it can't get cold or anything, but "Winterhorde" to me sounds like they should be from Siberia or something.

Amon Amarth may be boring now on their studio albums but they still kick rear end live. Always fun seeing em - this time they had a couple guys dressed up in chainmail and coming on stage at various times. Once they were fighting each other and bashing away at their wooden shields.

Entombed loving kick rear end and it was my first time seeing em. I wish they had a longer set as it was only like 9 songs. Petrov loving rules and still has his amazing guttural growls. At one point he was snarling or something and a bunch of snot came out. :3: So he tries wiping it off but it's not working and he makes this funny face of like, "holy poo poo it won't go away". My buddy was doing the stage cleaning up and snagged me their setlist.... written on a goddamn recycled papertowel that you get from washrooms.

ExMortus are much better live than the studio stuff shows - the singer has a deeper growl and the musicianship translates better on stage. Their last song they coiled around each other and started playing each others guitars which was insane. Some much younger kids in front of me (im 33) started going beserk and like, "OMG LOOK LOOK" so that was cool to see and made me smile. Awesome stuff.

i think they've changed vocalists a few times. their first album was much more death metalish vocals, then they did that song that sounded like 80s thrash.

If you read into the comments on the most recent post, you'll see Henrik say that it's indeed he, Conny, and Fredrik comprising the band.

e: their metal-archives status has gone to "active." I can't remember if it was "unknown" before that; seems like it was.
