PostNouveau posted:New York Times breaking report: Trump is a creepy dude. Oh hey look at that quote:Mr. Trump frequently sought assurances — at times from strangers — that the women in his life were beautiful. During the 1997 Miss Teen USA pageant, he sat in the audience as his teenage daughter, Ivanka, helped to host the event from onstage. He turned to Brook Antoinette Mahealani Lee, Miss Universe at the time, and asked for her opinion of his daughter’s body.

I don't know why he even lied about it. Him being his own spokesman is very on-brand. Plays into the Bugs Bunny relationship he has with the media.

Him leaking the tape to start a media cycle over nothing THEN lying about it is completely in character though. E: After watching the Katrina Pierson on Wolf Blitzer video(please dont, it will make you dumber) I've come to the conclusion that Trump did all this so he could pivot the conversation into Hillary's 'laughing at getting a child rapist off' tape. Don't think that worked!

etalian posted:Also if the establishment GOP was serious about this option they would working on getting GE signatures right now. The Whig solution wouldn't be to run candidates as Indies, it'd be to make the Republican candidate on the ballot in Ohio be John Kasich, the Republican candidate on the ballot be Marco Rubio, etc. Maybe give Donald Trump a few token states like New Jersey or something. There's only one Republican candidate on the ballot per state, but they'd be politicians who were popular in that state. It's hilariously impractical and people have way too big egos to let it happen.

Part of the problem with that plan (besides its status as transparent rules-laywering) is that, while people might not be the most savvy political operators, they're at least savvy enough to realize that only one person can be President and running a bunch of different candidates to throw the election to the House so only one of them could win is transparent bullshit. If they did try something like that this year (let's get rid of all the complications and say they pull it off without a hitch), would a voter in Ohio really want to vote for John Kasich if the voter knows it might mean, say, Ted Cruz winning the Presidency? By the way, the original Whig plan in 1836 was "Run William Harrison in the north, Hugh White in the South, and Daniel Webster in Massachusetts." If you're a Massachusetts voter, you should be thinking "the House gets to pick between the top three candidates, and Webster is guaranteed to be in fourth no matter what happens..."
