I don't think I've ever seen Flash drawn in a way I like but that artist is only slightly less not-my-thing than the last Flash artist.

Preview for Future Quest. http://www.avclub.com/article/dc-exclusive-future-quest-begins-ultimate-hanna-ba-236728 Another reminder that Doc should have a GL series to draw. Incidentally, Doc Shaner is saying on Twitter that Darwyn was a huge part in getting the comic together. https://twitter.com/DocShaner/status/731200329342025728 Teenage Fansub fucked around with this message at 06:35 on May 14, 2016 |

DC's press release http://www.dccomics.com/blog/2016/05/14/darwyn-cooke quote:Darwyn Cooke had a vision of the DC Universe that was uniquely his own, yet embraced by everyone. Once you saw his timeless designs and concepts for Batman, Catwoman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern or any other character, you immediately adopted his jubilant interpretation of these heroes as your own and wanted more. His take on the most iconic heroes in the world were breathtakingly direct and elegant, powerful and cool. His were some of the most beautiful, fun DC superhero images we have ever seen.

When did Cooke ever offend? His art wasn't exactly gratuitous.

I don't know about reading much more into Dan's comment than just complimenting Cooke's tenacity against regular polite society who'd rather take something on the chin. Example I saw today: http://www.bleedingcool.com/2016/05/14/the-comic-book-industry-remembers-darwyn-cooke/ "Darwyn Cooke was a man possessed of righteous fury, whether over the quality of a comic, a none headed decision by a comics publisher or a bar fight defending a young woman’s honour. He fought the good fight. But my favourite example has to be when he believed that a rejected pitch he and his crew had made to Marvel Comics for a line of All-Ages titles, was used to inform their subsequent Marvel Age line of titles without Darwyn’s involvement. True or not, during Wizard World Los Angeles, Darwyn Cooke walked up to now-Marvel EIC, then-Senior Editor Axel Alonso, picked up a pint of Guinness and threw it over Axel, with fellow editor Nick Lowe having to restrain Axel from following suit. The story spread like wildfire. Another Marvel colleague amused by the incident told me that, after Darwyn shortly signed with DC Comics afterwards, that this was the first exclusive comic book contract he had seen signed in beer." e: He definitely seemed to have a divisive personality. When the Comixology sale went up a few days ago, before the news, I saw quite a bit of anti-Cooke sentiment and a whole blog dedicated to inflammatory quotes. ee: https://twitter.com/cameronMstewart/status/731462369721876480/photo/1?ref_src=twsrc Teenage Fansub fucked around with this message at 03:46 on May 15, 2016 |

I also remember he was publicly outspoken over comics that were meant to be for "45 year old men", so there was that as well.

Darwyn was known for speaking his mind and not giving much of a gently caress about what people thought of him, and that went for his art as well. And while I think Didio's comment is misplaced, I don't think he meant it with any ill intent. If there is anger in it, then it must be more directed to the fact that Cooke died so suddenly after his family went public with the news (though I imagine Didio has known for some time, since he's an executive.)

Im just upset. And DiDio is the kind of guy to get upset about how 'sensitive' and 'PC' comics fans are these days, so I probably assumed too much based on that comment.

I'll never forget Cooke very publicly railed against Kevin Smith for writing the scene in his Green Arrow #1 with OIlie going down on Black Canary in a kitchen. Cooke called Smith something hilariously, profanely appropriate and accused him of ruining comics by pulling them away from their intended all-ages audience.

Early solicits for Superwoman and Deathstroke. http://www.newsarama.com/29275-first-look-dc-s-superwoman-and-deathstroke-august-solicits.html Lois Lane's got Superman's powers... and they're killing her!! She's a reverse She-Thor. It'd be cool if they laid off the powers being a burden thing directly after what's happening to N52 Clark right now and just let her be Superwoman. Not sure how they won't confuse everyone with the two sets of Lois and Clark, even if they always keep old Clark = Super, old Lois = civ, new Clark = civ, new Lois = Super. I'm sure it'll lead to some cute little situations, but I can't see it being easy to get people on the uptake that they aren't each other's secret identities. Lana and Steel featuring again is neat. Is that an Electric Red Superwoman in the background? How many Super people is DC going to have now? And I thought the amount of Spider people at Marvel was getting out of hand.

There's also (I'm guessing from the circular emblem) Earth 3 Lois in shadows there e: I guess red and white Superlady is Lana? She's mentioned in the solicit, but isn't on the cover otherwise. Teenage Fansub fucked around with this message at 00:49 on May 16, 2016 |

Ultraman is definitely still around, and Eradicator has been solicited for 'Superman' already. Not to mention Lex Luthor is wearing an S for Rebirth.
