I'm sure I'm missing some cultural context but I can't understand getting this mad about a singing competition.

I think you're underestimating the complex political stuff that's in play amongst many of the countries in Europe. It's not just the historical stuff either. Greece/Turkey. All the stuff amongst the former USSR countries, lots of countries opinions about a Germany due to austerity. Especially since Russia (came third) recently invaded Ukraine (came first). Who won by singing a song about Russia loving over Ukraine less than a century ago. Georgia also recently had a little war with Russia. You really can't see why some people get 'mad'? That's not excusing the muppets above. Of course.

Our presenter gets more bitter and angry every year since we have the record for most wins but haven't won in like 100 years. He bitches about Azerbaijan giving Serbia 12 points being "bloody typical" but expects 12 from the UK, it's great.

I'd find it kind of hilarious if this is what makes people think Garrison is a lovely person, especially since it's one he actually made, for once. From what I've seen, it started making the rounds on Twitter, and then I think George Takei posted an article about the Twitter blowup on Facebook. So that counts as mainstream attention in modern times.

It's Ancestral Pueblo. #2: The Ancestral Pueblo never lived in that region, a related group archaeologists call the Southern Sinagua did. #3: They weren't defacing rocks with their names, they were making calendars, marking solstices, leaving clan symbols, marking trails and creating images of their cosmology. #4: Most Southern Sinagua rock art in the region is not thousands of years old. Most dates from AD 500 at the earliest, but the largest amount is after AD 1150.
