I somehow got reminded that 1313 Dead End Drive existed. I didn't understand the rules and it took forever to set up so I figured I'd look up a video of it online. Still incomprehensible to me. So I came across Board Jame's review. Then his Knightmare review. I'm gonna have to go watch this whole series now.

First Channel Awesome copied Chez Apocalypse by reviewing Jupiter Ascending. Then they copied them by reviewing Mad Max And then copied them by reviewing Phantom And now Channel Awesome has copied Chez Apocalypse by leaving Maker: https://twitter.com/ChannelAwesome/status/732320785587699714 Edit: the only good thing about this is that those godawful League of Super Critic chopped-down abominations will all finally die.

Noah Caldwell-Gervais just posted his review of the new Doom game and holy poo poo. I need this game now! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m424XwGH1Uc This week's Jimquiziton asks if game reviewers are to kind on indy games. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bJF4g0gkMOg And Kim Justice takes a look at the Eternal Champions franchise. Yes, franchise. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=opb7j0dna6U Also, i'm swearing off Night Mind and creepy pasta stuff. I love his videos but I can't watch his stuff without getting freaked out. Yeah, I played the multiplayer demo and thought the game was just okay, but apparently people are really digging the single player. That video alone almost made me buy the game right after watching it. I probably will when I'm not broke, cause the game is looking better and better the more I look into it. http://i.imgur.com/OYGP697.gifv

Loved the game as a kid, though it was hard as gently caress and the computer literally cheated. I remember seeing articles in a magazine about a 32x (or was it Sega CD) sequel-- screenshots and all. That game never actually came to be, despite being strung along by promises and screenshots. So.... I guess nothing really has changed in gaming magazines since.

To be honest, the episode left me with significantly more respect for Rob Schneider. I get the sense of a guy who has sort of just coasted through Hollywood, doing this and that and telling jokes and managing steady work and getting saddled with a really lovely reputation. He seems aware that he's not very well-liked. I wonder now what on earth is driving a man like that; it seems to me that he's just doing it because he enjoys it. He seems fond of his show, he's proud to have created something with nobody else's fingerprints on it. His wife is really fuckin' good at Mortal Kombat too.

Game Grumps has been getting some kinda crazy good guests recently. Also, maybe weird to some people who are turned off by their style but they're also shockingly excellent hosts. Like, they engage their guests without talking over them and all and since Danny is pretty much The Sweetest Boy In The Whole Wide World it always at the very least feels like they genuinely are interested in their guest. And yea I went out of that episode having a surprising amount of 'yea, ok rock on' feeling about Schneider, a guy I normally can't stand, if only because he seems to 100% own 'yea I get it, people don't dig me, but I still like doing my own thing and I enjoy the fact that I still have enough cout to do my own kinda stuff without any more chefs in the kitchen'. Like, yea, do you man I guess, not like I can pretend I wouldn't try to keep making money as long as I could either.

Sure, it's not as good as his old stuff, but its watchable and has some laughs. Absolutely. I thought this was fine and a whole lot better than his high school killer review he did in two parts last year (which was tedious, forced and angry). If Spoony did 1 or 2 videos like the new one per month I think he might win back fans and patreons. But it may be too late. There's been about 2 or 2.5 years of near inactivity on his site and his patreon has gone from over $5,000 to about $1,800 and still slipping. Many of his old fans have moved on and new ones just think of him as Twitch streaming + Twitter snark. He may go the low-effort route and give up reviewing altogether.

I'd heard a lot about Night Mind but I finally tried it last night and holy poo poo his voice is pitch perfect for the material, this sort of radio voice that just isn't quite right. Also it's a really bad idea to watch those videos at night, even though the channel is called Night Mind. Isn't it ironic? Don't you think?

My favorite, favorite lovely criticism James Rolfe has ever done was when he made a ditty on Race For Your Life Charlie Brown where he notes, on a scene where it was a 3 to 4 frame loop for nearly a minute or so, on how much life and well animated cartoons back in the day were compared to modern cartoons.

Yeeeeeah, I've never really considered James Rolfe an especially deep thinker. He gets a pass where Doug Walker doesn't because he's nice to the people around him and he has a better grasp on pacing and production design, but I genuinely don't think they're too far off intellectually.

James Rolfe lives on top of some weird spacetime anomaly where it's 1996 in his basement and he becomes 15-years-old whenever he goes down there and just looks like an adult because we're not in the basement with him. He has never heard the word "scythe" before.

I like him I refused to watch The Thing (2011) for similar reasons. The trailer for the 2011 version made it look generic, 1982 version is one of my favorite films, none of the characters or really storyline from the 80's version were going to be in it (helicopter aside), and they took the name without regard for what came before. I'm not asking for Wilford Brimley and Kurt Russell to pop into the Norwegian camp to borrow a cup of flamethrower fuel, I just want them to make a sequel worthy of the first film and pretend they're not trying to cash in on an old name so they can sell t-shirts.

Reboots of 80s series have been attempted dozens of times and have only really worked out two, or arguably three times. I think it's safe to assume unless we hear massively good word of mouth from those who do see it that the movie's terrible.

His judgement tells him its trash based on his subjective preferences and he believes he'd hate it, so he's skipping it. A lot of people do this. Also he doesn't say he's 'too good' to see it, he outright admits he's heavily biased against it. It's like all the Robocop nerds skipping the Robocop remake because 'not muh robocop'. Except James articulates his opinion better than that.
