As A Man who has bought panties in the past for Reasons holy gently caress how do you ladies deal with that poo poo, it's like paper thin garbage fabric even for the expensive ones. I'm surprised they're not considered outright disposable after one time use.

Surprise, most women's clothing is thin garbage. Even stuff like basic tshirts or work slacks have huge differences in quality between men's and women's styles. And the quality of women's stuff is basically random so it can be difficult to plan for what lasts. I've had $8 shirts last more than 5 years and look great, and had $50 shirts look like garbage in less than a season. I've also had a number of $8 shirts die after a wear or two. I don't enjoy clothes shopping and would *love* to shop for clothes once a year or so like my husband does, but women's clothing is too unreliable. Never mind a lot of 'basic' or 'classic' styles can be nearly impossible to find for seasons at a time, especially if you're trying to be price conscious. I envy how easy it is for my husband to think of the thing he wants to buy, find it in the store for a reasonable price, and have it fit with 0 to minimal tailoring. I'm not defending spending hundreds of dollars on clothing a month, but I understand a moderate regular clothes budget for women because stuff wears out pretty quickly.

I've paid $60 for a pair of panties for the wife and it didn't seem really any different than some $15 Calvin Klein or other mall brands. However, Victoria's Secrets panties are garbage disposable toilet paper for your crotch and the wife doesn't like them normally anyway thankfully. On the other hand, my Ex Officio underwear is freakin' amazing and I hesitate to call $20 / pair a rip-off. But at maybe $5 - $10 each panty times 80 you have enough to not wear the same pair for nearly 3 months in a row but still buy some new ones every 2 months. I didn't realize that the isolated system of a panty collection obeyed the second law of thermodynamics for some women. When it comes to bras, I can better empathize given the many more possible fit issues there. But that $60 panty wasn't anywhere near as good of a buy compared to the $150 I spent on the bra, which I gave her among cheaper bras to see if she was price sensitive. There was zero question - that $150 bra was far better than the $20 - $40 ones There needs to be a for money, maybe the same guy as a green stack of bills being disintegrated.

Uh sorry you have to clothe your wife who earns significantly less than you. Maybe you could (and this is super crazy so hear me out) come to an agreement together about clothing and discretionary funds. Or keep raging about your partner spending your money without regard and see how great that continues to be for your marriage.

if you buy five pairs of shoes and wear each pair once a week they will last five times as long but you will get tired of them and get something new before they wear out. BWM. Also "panties" is the dumbest, most infantile sounding word and I hate it.

Each pair will last for X uses, five pairs cycled in/out will give you the same total uses as 5 pairs that are each sequentially worn to oblivion. BWM: in NYC, people walking to/from work wearing dress shoes, especially in winter. I see a dude step in salt and die a little inside. Pour one out for the shoesies.

iPad problem solved New Zealand sells foreign land provided they supply $100k of iPads and laptops to a local school. Quite a deal, nothing quite like selling your land for http://www.stuff.co.nz/business/industries/80062197/land-sale-approved-after-funding-of-school-ipads-and-laptops There's a lot of people still patting themselves on the back for buying a house in New Zealand and spending their time circle jerking on local forums about how much money they've made. Of course one of the big banks has said that house prices could fall from 2018. Seriously there are people still talking about how house prices can't fall in New Zealand. http://www.stuff.co.nz/business/industries/80066702/house-prices-may-fall-from-2018-as-borrow-and-spend-cycle-burns-out--westpac

I mean in practice if you have more than one pair at once you can wear shoes appropriate to the occasion, like if you know it's going to be cold and salty you can wear more durable shoes or less expensive shoes, unlike me - I only own two pairs and one of them is for fancy business times only

Wait so you've agreed that she can spend all her money on fun discretionary purchases- basically encouraging her to fritter it away- then you bitch about how she's spending her money on things she wants? That's her whole budget category. Anyway- I have a coworker with a pretty mediocre paying position who constantly brags about his impending real estate purchases in our metropolitan area and his luxurious home trappings and I can't decide if he's totally up to his eyeballs in debt or if he's just making everything up because he wants people to like and respect him. He's kind of an idiot so it's really a 50/50 shot.

Women's fashion sucks because to stay 'fashionable' you need to have different shoes which suit a wide variety of styles, especially if you're short and can't just wear flats with everything. An easy example of the increased demands of variety in a woman's wardrobe is the suit. There's a very specific uniform that allows men to get away with just having one piece of formal wear and women to have to use 'renttherunway.com' if they have regular formal events and don't want to spend an arm and a leg. It's seen as a faux pas to wear the same thing to more than one event. And unfortunately, fashion, aka how you look, does have effect how others perceive your worth as an employee much more so for women than men. There's tons of BWM involved as well, but the the circumstances surrounding women's fashion and clothing is distinctly different from men's and lends itself to encourage BWM behavior. edit Victoria Secret panties are about as durable as any and they're cute. You just have catch them on their 6 for $30 sales. Aerie is also very durable and often have super sales. However, underwear matters for women's fashion. Having the appropriate type to avoid panty lines etc is important, and some of the styles can be more expensive. Rurutia fucked around with this message at 02:14 on May 17, 2016 |

Leather shoes actually do last a lot longer if you let them rest a day or two to dry out. It also gives you time to clean and polish them. Doesn't mean that you need 50 pairs but 3 pairs will last more than 3 times as long if you rotate days.

I work in a textile lab so I've seen reams of quantitative data re: women's clothing strength and wear. Some of this poo poo would explode if you crossed your eyes and went "booga-booga" at a side seam. Not to mention flimsy mesh shells seem to have become en vogue recently and if that stuff snags on a doorhandle or something then you can kiss the whole garment goodbye.

Also if you wore dress shoes everyday in this city, you'd have to spend hours cleaning them. poo poo's dirty yo.

pig slut lisa posted:I would love to hear more about your work. Have you ever done an A/T thread? I'm just a clerk, not one of the technicians, so the stuff I know about the industry is mostly secondhand and probably wouldn't interest many people. I can at least say for certain that a lot of the clothes coming out of the big Chinese mills for product lines like Alfred Dunner or Ruby Road are subjected to some fairly strict strength/colorfastness/wash resistance requirements from a third-party certifier, but the higher-end stuff like Vera/Alexander Wang or The Row seems to go by retailer specifications instead, which can ironically result in worse performance once they hit shelves since there's a lot of backdoor deals between manufacturers and vendors. Women's clothing is a cutthroat scene, but I guess that if you're some harried middle manager who's getting screamed at by five people in three languages to hustle 5000 yards of fabric out the door by end of day tomorrow it naturally results in playing fast and loose with product quality sometimes. e: one funny anecdote - my workplace has an article from a lab that tested a number of men's suits in the early oughts for warp/weft strength and presence of the Super 100 wool yarns (grades of yarn meant to be finer and more luxurious than ordinary wool). Performance varied from one manufacturer to the next, but there was one suit that not only had astonishingly poor performance in seam strength, but also lied about the quality of its Super fibers - the one from Donald Trump's line. Buying Trump is bad with money. Oxxidation fucked around with this message at 17:09 on May 17, 2016 |
