I used to live just behind that place, like just across the back lane behind it, and a lot of the buildings around there were built in the 30s-early 40s that it very well could be a electrical fault or something like that, although I doubt that's the case. The building is also an old Catholic church that later became the mosque, and it looks like that and other denominations have been the previous targets before this, that whoever has been lighting these fires mistook it's actual purpose.

The Greens-Liberal Axis has (probably) claimed another Battler victim! It is "hypocritical" for Labor frontbencher David Feeney to negatively gear a house when his party's policy is to abolish the practice, Federal Finance Minister Mathias Cormann says. Mr Feeney has failed to declare a $2.3 million house on his parliamentary register of interests, saying it was an oversight. He also negatively gears the house.

It's not hypocritical to negatively gear a house while arguing negative gearing is bad for society as a whole, he should be in a world of poo poo for not declaring over $2M of assets though

Thinking about it, what baird is doing is much more in line with the anzac spirit, getting hosed over for king, country, and the betterment of your betters, than any protesters.

The ANZAC bit definitely felt out of place but it is an interesting point to consider how glorified the ANZAC spirit is in our culture and how people are continually OK with politicians stripping away more freedoms than the Turks or the Germans ever would have.

The Sydney Morning Herald columnist Paul Sheehan has been given a redundancy package two months after he was suspended indefinitely over his false story of a woman, “Louise”, who claimed she had been raped and beaten by Arabic-speaking men. Sheehan told Guardian Australia he was made redundant from the Fairfax newspaper he first worked for 30 years ago but he declined to clarify whether the arrangement was voluntary or forced.
