I like how in 2-3 chapters Anne has made one of the major antagonists go from "imposing enemy leader" to "pathetic cynical whiner", it's amazing what a simple perspective shift will do. and in the end he just slinks off like a loser. "I will no longer stay my hand" he says, staying his hand via blatantly running away. You didn't win! You didn't win!  feel-good story of the year
