AJPW drew 1400 to Korakuen today. It's their biggest house there in over a year and has to be seen as a major success for Akiyama's ongoing efforts to turn the company around on a skeleton crew of full-timers after all the disastrous blows they took last and early this year. Kento Miyahara beat Daisuke Sekimoto to retain the Triple Crown in the main event. K-DOJO's Kengo Mashimo is the next challenger. They also teased Yuji Okabayashi(/Daisuke Sekimoto?) vs. Zeus/Bodyguard for the tag belts after Okabayashi beat Zeus in a singles. Suwama returns from a ruptured Achilles tendon at the 7/14 Korakuen, teaming with Naoya Nomura and Atsushi Aoki vs. Zeus, Shuji Ishikawa and Super Tiger. The build for the presumed November Sumo Hall main event of MIyahara vs. Suwama probably starts there. They also announced some kind of partnership with IdeaPocket, which is one of the biggest porn producers in Japan. As weird as that is, I guess as sponsors go it could be a pretty big get for them? AJPW announced the top matches for the 6/15 Korakuen card: Kento Miyahara vs. Kengo Mashimo for the Triple Crown Zeus/Bodyguard vs. Daisuke Sekimoto/Yuji Okabayashi for the World Tag titles Ryoji Sai/Jake Lee vs. Shuji Ishikawa/Masashi Takeda Jun Akiyama/Yuma Aoyagi vs. Konosuke Takeshita/Tetsuya Endo It's a stacked show based on the top two matches alone. I guess Akiyama feels like they need to book more title matches to draw these days. I'm a little worried about them hotshotting too much with a card like this coming so soon after the last big show, but on the other hand they have a little buzz for the first time in forever and maybe it makes sense to keep striking while the iron is hot.

tbh it's not like any of those guys are major losses. Hama and Nakanoue SHOULD be but they weren't doing anything with them anyway. Both get booked better in BJW which is probably partly why they left. Presumably the old guys were faced with taking lesser contracts and figured they can make more freelancing.
