I'm so excited! Cricket is coming home tomorrow! We have everything set up, but now I am mildly panicking over silly stuff. I'm wondering now if I made her cage too busy, or if she will like the toys we got her etc. I spent the afternoon making chop and grain bake for her...it smelled great! Hopefully she will eat it. I also have a few things to put on her skewer for her to nibble on if she wants...broccoli, cauliflower, a pepper piece, and a strawberry section. We even have her first vet appt set up for Sunday at the bird clinic. We even picked up a Bird first Aid Kit to have on hand just in case. I don't think I am forgetting anything, at least, I hope not. Now, setting up stuff to take with us to go get her. A towel for the travel cage, a few Nutriberries (thank you again LAB)...but most of all hoping she won't miss her other home and bird buddies too much. I am worrying way too much. Someone smack me! I so need to sleep tonight, but I am amped over having her home tomorrow. It's going to be a long night...

Finally got a photo of Inko scritching himself. He can only do it with this leg while holding on to the top of the cage with a single claw on his other foot, and enlisting the help of gravity this way, since his legs and feet are all messed up His cage is behind me, and he'll instantly stop and likely move if he catches you looking at him while he's doing this-so most of the time when I moved to get camera or turn to photograph he would stop and reeeeee at me. Plus my camera is hosed and will only take one photo before needing to be reset... so this was no easy task. But look at that face

The sparrows under my A/C unit must be getting ready to fledge cause every now and then I hear a ton of flapping even when the parents aren't there. The father keeps angrily chirping on the windowsill at my birds because he can hear them but can't see them.

I'm still surprised the local bluebirds haven't gotten in a fight with Teeka. Because they fight everything else around the house: the grill, car mirrors, a window, the chimney, a particularly offensive lawnchair, and anything else that offends their bluebird religion or whatever.

Earlier this week I bought some sheets of 1/8" acrylic to make seed guards for the bird cage that don't look like crap. Three days without vacuuming around the bird cage and there are a minimal amount of pellets on the floor. Success! The clear acrylic sheets are barely noticeable too. Here's Ozzy modeling with his home upgrade. The plastic wraps around the side of the cage where the two food dishes are. I drilled holes so I can use the food dish holders to attach them to the side of the cage. I probably should have taken the picture after I cleaned the cage. I live in Brooklyn so it's mostly just pigeons and sparrows but I saw a red-tailed hawk eating a squirrel in a tree by the park near my apartment the other day. There are also these two giant dense trees in back of my building that are like a little bird oasis where are mockingbirds and robins who set up shop there in the summer. There's also a cardinal that lives there year round and Charlie picked up a couple of his calls. Archer, of course, decided that backyard bird calls are not worth learning and "car alarm" was the ticket to picking up the ladies.

I found one of the swallows that are nesting in my parents' barn dead this morning. It had been building a nest, found a piece of fishing line, and started incorporating it into the nest. We found it hanging from the nest with the fishing line wrapped around its neck.
