This was a really good card with actually minimal b-leeg shenanigans. Mismatches? Sure. But apart from those a really enjoyable event.
this is very good

How is "Z-league" stuff? There's a local promotion just a few knocks away from me having their first show, where hometown fighter Not Mickey Gall is gonna fight a one Mark Climaco from the South Bay. The only other MMA live event I've been to is a World Series of Fighting - how would this compare in atmosphere, in resources for the fighters, etc.? Can I expect a lot of doctors present or will I feel extremely uncomfortable watching the whole thing? Seating's only $35 so the price is right. VIP is only $20 more so I'd get that if it means free drinks. Sorry for the dumb questions. Thanks in advance.

I've been to like super z league "amateur" mma in a Brooklyn rec center before, it was run by hip hop promoter I think so there was like vip bottle service and random girls dressed like they were going to the club that were obviously paid to be there, and something called the Brooklyn Jewish Joker to entertain kids. One guy lost by exhaustion so bad they carried him out in one of those plastic lawn chairs evnt though they had EMTs there. Random cheap mma is the best you should totally go

Cheap z-league fights are totally worth going to, especially if there's affordable drinks and you bring friends. It'll probably be hilariously low-rent but it's not, like, impoverished dudes fighting to the death in a dimly lit warehouse or anything. Go have fun!

The only MMA show I've been to was some little PacNW organization, and I had a blast.

The preshow had some ginger kid making his amateur debut, and you could see how incredibly nervous he was. When the fight started and his opponent came at him, the kid's expression said "oh poo poo I'm locked in a cage with a guy who wants to punch me in the face and strangle me." He barely survived the first round, but in the second round the butterflies went away and he just went ham on the other guy and won by strike stoppage. He got by far the biggest cheers of the night.

For $35 I'll bet you get your money's worth.

$55 with liquor included is not a bad night of facepunching. Last Z League show I was at had a pretty sweet brawl at one of the fighter's afterparties. Some drunk thought he could take dude's boxing coach. I started charging a cover charge until bar management found out.

I have a request for you gfycat/streamable/vine types (Lobstermobster?): can someone put together a clip of Santos soccer kicking Prindle in the groin at Bellator 59, followed by Prindle axe kicking Santos in the groin in the rematch?

This is too long to quote in it's entirety, but if it's true there is some serious poo poo about to go down with Bellator

Former employee claims Bellator allowed ‘forged’ and ‘falsified’ fighter medical reports

Chris James 2
Aug 9, 2012

quote:

"Approximately 48 hours prior to Martinez's scheduled fight at Bellator 126, [Light] promptly reported what he had learned to Rich Chou, defendant BELLATOR's Vice President of Talent. Chou assured [Light] that he would follow up and that [Light] should focus on his job. When [Light] heard nothing further from Chou, he approached Coker regarding Martinez' impending fight based on forged medicals, in violation of Arizona law. Coker told [Light] to ‘do what Chou told you to do,' without addressing these issues. Thereafter, [Light] again brought the subject up to Chou. Chou threatened [Light] with termination if he kept pushing the issue. [Light] later learned that after losing his bout, Martinez never resumed his mixed martial arts career.

"Prior to the Bellator 131 event, [Light] told Coker that fighters had been suspended for using Rendon to sign their medicals because Rendon was not a licensed physician. Coker told [Light], ‘a lot of people at Bellator are going to lose their jobs next week. Do you want to keep yours?' Coker added, ‘then stay in your lane and stop making waves!' Fearful of losing his job, [Light] said nothing further regarding the falsified medical reports."

No.

The greatest moment in my life was realizing that I didn't need a belt to be happy.

Amazing that the guy who (allegedly) drove a railway spike through Sugar Ray Leonard's dog's head to send a message turns out to possibly be the less lovely of Bellator's CEOs.

E: er, I guess it was sugar ray's former manager's dog or whatever

:munch:

Looking forward to some good promotional drama here. What would turn this into a beautiful clusterfuck is if the UFC lawsuit blokes then argue that Bellator's pitiful attempt at competition was only possible through criminal activity. I'm not saying that would go anywhere, but god it would be beautiful entertainment.
