I FINALLY got Command Air/Naval etc. I've been doing this stuff professionally, in the real world, with real missiles and radars for almost 20 years. The last 5 years I've been neck deep in simulations and experimentation. I'm...impressed with this thing. It isn't perfect, but it is probably better, or at least more entertaining, than anything I've seen in the DoD.

That being said, I'd love to run some real life-ish contemporary scenarios. I literally got it last night, so my proficiency with the game is pretty limited. What I do have, though, is a brainful of real life data. Does anyone want to work with me on developing a couple of fairly realistic contemporary scenarios?

lol hey bewbies, I'm outta town for the long weekend here in canada so will be in and out for the next few days. loads of people to make scenarios with; though all my CMANO time atm is soaked up in adding new features to the sim.

I run a CMANO chatroom at https://secure.baloogancampaign.com/#/rooms/baloogan could ask there if anyone wants to make some contemporary scens, also there are some cool things on the horizon in CMANO land, and I'd highly recommend joining the beta tester team and maybe even have a chat with the command devs about command, contemporary scens and such.

The only issue is the resolution. I love that game to bits and it is a real shame that the modern remakes ignore the simplicity of just being asked which troops you're sending into the battle instead of all these units you have to move around for some daft reason.

Can anyone tell me why I can't move my transports into Lauria and unload this entire Canadian army I have sitting offshore waiting to provide backup to my beleaguered landing force? Is it because the hex is on the front lines? Or does the port magically disappear after only getting one turn's worth of use?

Guys I think I might end up losing a shitton of American and British troops to this. I have no other forces in North Africa with planning high enough to launch a distraction invasion, they're still a few turns away.

Couple things.
1: the more units unload in a given turn the more it MP to unload more troops, so if those offshore troops have already moved this turn they may not have the MP to unload.
2: Where is your Amphib HQ? Lauria isn't a port so you need an HQ directly offshore to maintain the temp port, if your HQ has left the port is gone.

OBS is open source and free.

And a loving pain in the rear end because of it. DXTory is the strongest option but it costs $40 or so. It's what I'd use if I had the money to grab it at the moment. At current I'm using OBS and it's frustrating but it works.

Both feature:

Decent compression size v. quality (and it's adjustable if you want more quality and have the space to spare)

Multi-channel audio recording which I can't live without anymore. It's SO nice to record what the audio output to one track and my microphone to another so if I have something worth putting in that I said (or I'm playing something with voice chat) I can put that in but I can also cut out my constant coughing and any background noises. Note that this requires a little more effort on the editing end of things but it's one of the nicest things you can have for your video production.

Streaming! I haven't used DXTory so I don't know how well it works but OBS works with my Twitch flawlessly (barring the quality/hitching/etc. issues I'm having with it overall). So you can stream if you want!

Yeah I've used OBS but that was before I moved and my upload is too poor now to stream. Originally I used fraps then edited in I think virtualdub. HUGE pain in my rear end and compression and encoding it was a nightmare.

I guess what I want is to create a video of a turn and if I could have the option of either recording my gamer thoughts while taking the video or just going back afterward and laying down a track with the original video and sound, and finally compressing it painlessly into something I can upload to youtube.

OBS can record raw/compressed video to disc rather than streaming it, that's what I use rather than fraps.

Dark_Swordmaster

OBS does uncompressed now? Last I heard you could just do x264 with a CBR=0 and get close-ish. That used to work for me but now even on middling settings for recording the video itself hitches HORRIBLY. Tested using Quake 1 so it's not the game performance...

Editing is very difficult for free and I don't honestly think you can do a worthwhile job on any free tools. Spend the 40-50 to get Sony's Movie Studio and go to town. It's fully featured and let's you do anything you'd want.

Like I said about OBS' multi-track drifting audio: You can record live commentary while playing and during editing you can rerecord over it or just cut it because you said dumb poo poo anyway. The setup I use sounds exactly like what you want.

After many aborted DCB attempts I finally finished a game as Germany.

I lost by three points. Held my target of Rostov (+Kharkov) and Leningrad.
However I managed to completely lose HGM. The AI somehow managed to wipe 15 infantry divisions in a single turn off the map and then I lost fuel and was unable to respond. They completely wiped it off the map.

Final result: 384 Russian division destroyed and 90 German ones.

Get DC:B, since HoI 4 will improve much quicker than DC:B will since Paradox are crazy with their post-launch support and have infinite money.

Ck2 and Eu4 are much closer to their predecessors in terms of game systems though. Paradox has taken the time to reinvent a lot of HOI's design that has either become obsolete or was hosed up in HOI3. It's definitely got a shared lineage there but it doesn't benefit as much from relying on tried and true systems to an extent that EU and UK were able to.
