They mentioned working on multi-FC chat channels over a year ago, though I imagine we'll get those around the same time they finally add the UI plug-in API.

As they literally are out of memory for the UI on PS3 (If you open up your party window, those stat buff indicators at the bottom used to be on the party list in the main UI, but they moved them there JUST to have enough memory for TP bar indicators) I don't expect that until the PS3 is cut loose like the boat anchor it is.

I think the odds are strong that the PS3 gets dropped when they roll out the next expac. After watching a few times there's three FF bosses from the mainline games in 3.3: Calofisteri from FFV. Whelk from VI. Omza from IX.

Wait a minute. I was just told that you can level any class in this game on one character. Does that mean I won't need to have thousands of alts?

You can do literally everything on one character! Every class, job, profession.... everything. And you can switch between them very easily, since your class is just based on your weapon. Playing as other races is the other reason to have an alt, and FFXIV address that by "fantasias," which are potions that let you change your character's looks. (They cost money, but not much, and you can occasionally get them for free.) As far as I know, people only have alts in order to avoid weekly content lockouts... because they just love raiding that much, I guess? The game is very much designed around one character per player though, considering how much investment there is just to get through the MSQ alone.

The only thing your missing out is that depending on your class, your starting city and main quest are split 3 ways until you hit level 15

Yup, you can, and are indeed rather encouraged, to do everything on one main character. It's why I flip-flop via Fantasia (character recustomization) so much - I just can't pick between a potato (Lalafell) and a dragon-princess (Au Ra).

Well, I just ran straight into the fact that you can't gather Cobalt Ore until level 46, despite crafting a ton of 40-45 level items requiring it, including the level 43 Miner Main Hand, because gently caress you people who were gathering their own materials I guess.

It's not that hearty of a gently caress you. Much as I dislike people who talk like this, if you can't afford to just shell out a little gil on gear to level miner up to 46, then maybe this isn't the right time for you to dive into the gilsink that is crafting. There is more after that and it is worse.

Oh god is it so much worse. Especially once you break 50, where until you hit around 54 you won't be able to HQ ANYTHING at your current level without food all HQ gear and melds, or having done the treadmill that was level 50 crafting before HW (lucis tools, etc).

# ? May 28, 2016 01:58 |

Also if you're really dead set on mining all the mats yourself, you can just level miner to 46 with an outdated pickaxe. Unless the rest of your gear sucks you'll still be able to mine cobalt.

Yeah it isn't until you try unspoiled nodes and the like that you really need to hit specific thresholds for gathering. Before that you can get by with boosting abilities and the vagaries of the RNG.

I don't see what the gathering problem is because you can use older gear to gather you're just not as good at it. When in 2.0 I pretty much just got my gathering stuff from quest turn ins and if it was cheap on MB. Did just fine. Hell, I finished the HW gathering quests with having level 54 gear still. Crafting? Crafting is just a poo poo pile all the way down. My FC loves that I can meld for them now though. I haven't decided if I actually want good gear for the jobs and bother with scrips.
