Though every review I've seen for Appleseed, Appleseed XIII, and Appleseed Ex Machina says they range from innocuously bad to god awful depending on the reviewer. I know it's also from the same production team that did Vexille, and while Vexille was a visually impressive movie at the time, it's also almost insultingly terrible on every other level.

GitS and Appleseed aren't set in the same world. GiTS is roughly 20-30 years from now, Appleseed is a post-apocalyptic setting about the last (or one of a few) intact and thriving cities rebuilding after a global war. One of their standing jobs is actually tracking down stray soldiers still fighting eachother out the ruins worldwide to tell them the war is over. The CGI movies (Appleseed and Ex Machina) are fun, and VERY pretty, action films. Though definitely not as smart as they sometimes think they are. The series (Appleseed XIII) apparently not so much. What Bennet is reviewing next is the late 80's OVA, which is not all that long and merely average. Vexille is most definitely pants-on-head stupid, but goddamn if the action scenes weren't pretty . All three of them.

Having watched Vexille on Netflix a month ago, I gotta disagree, aside from the prologue all the other action scenes were dumb and over edited. The middle fight makes it look like the good guys stumble from one ambush into another, and then another for good luck. And the third one was just a dull series of predictable escalations and an obvious conclusion. It's also pretty racist, but in that weird you think they're trying to say something about racism but mess it up due to incompetence.

With 1/50th the budget and a bunch of Playstation 2's to render the CG.

I like Appleseed (or at least the little of it that I've had time to read). None of the CGI films ever really captured my interest, but I haven't seen anything from the '80s anime, so I'll have to watch Bennett's review once it's out.Mr. Fowl posted:Can't fault a man for doing what he loves. True, but one of the critiques with his later work is that he started coloring his work digitally, and it doesn't really look that great; it lacks texture, and isn't really suited to his style of drawing.

I pulled my back out yesterday so I've been holed up on the couch all day watching an all-day marathon of Baywatch and it's exactly as amazing in person as it is on Baywatching. Right now I'm watching an episode where one of the lifeguards is filming a Jaws ripoff and is trying to cut costs by using a real wild shark. The marathon itself is great too because the channel running it (COZI TV) seems to know how ridiculous the show is and in between episodes has skits where actual lifeguards act out some scenes from Baywatch. E: BAYWATCH JUST BLEW UP A SHARK WITH A GAS CAN AND A FLARE GUN I AM DONE. E2: The problem with watching Baywatch is that it makes me really excited to see the eventual Baywatchings on these episodes. One of the rookies just saved two nudists from falling down a cliff. One of the other lifeguards: "Good job. I bet no one else has saved more people today!" Immediate cut to Mitch, who just stopped a terrorist from releasing super cholera into the city's water supply. dijon du jour fucked around with this message at 01:01 on May 31, 2016 |

I watched an episode of Hoff the Record and it was fairly amusing. News for Miss Wallace: the Hoff is appearing in pantomime in Cardiff, Wales this winter. For the benefit of non-Brits: pantomime is a way of B/C/D-list celebrities and local figures boosting their income over the winter. It pays fairly well, fills the theatres and provides some fan service by incorporating in-jokes about the celebrities into the plays.

He dated Caroline, Stephanie's sister, who is introduced the season I'm on currently. Good stuff! Baywatch is a treasure. Josef K.
