Creepy little garbage eaters

Sabine making the Top Gun pilot car sick was fantastic. The Viper is pure :911: The cinematography is still great. Both guests were fun, but the two barrel setup is atrocious. I do not like the SIARPC rallycross.

Other than that, gently caress it, it's more Top Gear.

e: oh and my favorite line of the night was the Top Gun guy saying they fine everyone :10bux: for quoting the movie.

Just started watching it and the smugness in Evan's talking about "we don't talk about catering anymore on this show" unngghhhhhhhhhhhhh that's doomed this whole show right from the get-go if they are going to invite comparisons to the old one.

edit

Jesus they keep missing the point of what made Top Gear good, it wasn't the production and having the Stig, it was the chemistry between the hosts augmented with those things.

LeBlanc I can see loosening up and getting into the role nicely as time goes on.

It just seems like they picked out the elements I disliked the most about the old show and cranked them up to 11 though, and watching Evans try to commentate the laps was pretty painful.

I mean it's fine if you like fawning over supercars and celebrities than this probably is going to be the show for you. All I wanted to do was watch some mates tool about Britain, and occasionally another country, with old cheap cars which I don't think I'm going to get here.

Evans was needlessly shouty in the studio bits, Leblanc was obviously having fun in the filmed bits, Sabine was great making the pilot puke. So I'll keep going cuz I need my tv car porn.

Also I just don't feel right about them keeping the same theme song and old lap times, like shouldn't it be a full reboot or something?

Yeah I was surprised how much they kept, even the Stig jokes. But instead of delivering the Stig jokes like Clarkson, with a comically mixed sense of awe and disgust, one line was (am I remembering this wrong?) read from an autocue by Leblanc and another shouted by Evans with the audience instructed to cheer instead of laugh. If they survive to another series, they should definitely redo as much as possible so it fits the hosts better.

Eddie Jordan seems to go off on weird tangents when asked about stuff on air, I've noticed he appears to be in it less than before which is great because he's an annoying twat. It'd be fine if he offered some sort of insight but he just waffles on about poo poo nobody cares about. I don't do F1 yet I watch it sometimes and I wonder why the gently caress he's on it. Coulthard is great though, as an ex-driver he offers far more insight to the racing, knows all the little easter eggs about tracks/venues and is actually a pretty funny guy.

The old team probably would have cracked the same joke but they would have done with more nuance and not in that "oh boy watch me make this great joke I'm about to make right now" way.

No way they would have done it with more nuance, but it would have been one joke out of many and not a lone joke with an incredibly stilted set up (the entire Indian ton of downforce was booked for that joke).

One of the best things about this is that they are filming four studio sections a week according to Evans on tv last week. They are trying to film as if its a live broadcast and its not working.

So if you think about it they cant change anything studio based to take into account anything for about 4 weeks.

Its got two weeks for me. I think Leblanc will relax a bit once he get used to it. They need more from him in segments, more Sabine as fans love her and they need to put Harris in charge.

Star in a car was so bad I went and sorted my washing while it was on. Ramsey bragging he is having two La Ferraris is not my idea of entertainment.
Trip was pointless. All they had to do was make the challenge Leblanc trying to find Blackpool without using maps or Satnav while Evans follows.
Fun would come from them ending up in dodgy places on the way.

All in all terrible and unless they make some radical changes its going to end Top Gear. Big ratings this week. Next week they start falling.

Rory was good, clearly comfortable in front of a studio audience, Chris Harris looked kind of terrified though. Here's hoping Extra Gear is just a trial for the new presenters so they can fire Evans at the end of the series knowing they've got a couple of people to fill in the hole his ego left.

Oh I don't know about big this week.

The long-awaited return of Top Gear was watched by an average of just 4.4 million viewers as many critics lamented the decision of the new cast and producers to stick to the motoring shows tried and tested format.

Even the peak audience of 4.7 million figure came in well below the 5 million Evans said would stop him being disappointed. He said at a press launch last week: Five million-plus would be great, after that it doesnt matter.

In fairness, Top Gear has used a variant of Jessica as the theme song pretty much forever, it'd be odd to change it at this point. I wasn't sure if they'd use a different mix or something though.

New Top Gear is bad in the same way Old Top Gear was bad when it was New Top Gear, you can't force chemistry but either it'll happen or they'll replace someone like they did with Jason Dawe and (almost) Hammond.

Isn't the fact they are already doing well a sign that they should continue doing just that?

Because they could get much better rating with demographic X, if the presenter were also from demographic X

e.g. all those women who thought they were enjoying the old TG weren't - because it is well known that women can't enjoy a show that doesn't have a female presenter.

Also black people aren't really capable of enjoying a programme with an all-white presenting cast.

I know this because I read a book on diversity in the media. It was printed on paper made from wheatgrass.

He means that old TG could change the live sections based on the previous week's audience response.

Because new TG records 4 of them at a time, the next three are going to feature Chris Evans shouting and being hated more and more each week
