Well, there's stuff to nitpick from a lot of angles. As a "casual" game, it doesn't have an Arcade mode, the Story mode is horrible (an extended one will be added in June tho) and Survival is a slog with colors locked behind it. From the technical side, the PC version still doesn't support DirectInput controllers and the netcode is weird since one person can have a perfect match and the other one will be teleporting all around the place, so you never know if you had a "good" fight or if the other guy was lagging horribly. Also ragequitting wasn't (still isn't?) punished so people will just quit on you in Ranked matches, avoiding losing points AND giving you any points.

As a competitive game, I just think it's kinda bland, and there are a bunch of little stupid things that personally bother me that mean nothing to people that aren't grognards. We mention 8f of input lag a lot, which makes some stuff VERY hard to punish and react to, even offline (to compare, 4 had about 4 or 5f, Skullgirls has 2f). Offense is very limited, but since it's so hard to react to stuff you can just do crazy poo poo and get away with it. It feels like a bunch of characters have similar tools and similar gameplans too.

And then there's Capcom being on fire all the time, taking their sweet time hyping up DLC characters (we were supposed to get one a month, Ibuki's trailer came out YESTERDAY and who knows if she'll be out before June comes around), not fixing some of the technical issues or even addressing them, even self-sabotaging seeing they still haven't put their cash shop up.

I don't have the game, just played the betas, but this seems to cover the things I've seen in reviews.

No content
- Single player is just survival that is tedious and monotonous
- The character stories are just rushed art
- No arcade mode
- Story mode is bare bones
- Some multiplayer problems with lobbies or something
- Grinding to get the crappy unlockables is a chore

Technical Issues
- Certain controllers aren't supported
- Some problems with v-sync
- no cash store
- Online game play quality is questionable

Overall design
- No punishment for rage quitting
- Although the engine is designed to have high quality models, the execution is horrible and most characters look worse than characters in games with lower quality models
- Some characters simply feel unfinished and it's unlikely there will be any balance changes untill the end of the year
- Female characters all seem to be designed as fan service to otaku

As somenoe who really enjoys Ibuki n3S and even sort of in 4, BOY SF5 Ibuki looks nothing like the character I enjoyed other than her lovely new costume.

Replaced a lot of her moves with more Kunai tossing. Except now you've got a limited supply of those. They seem to have sacrificed her super good mobility (and replaced it with something to make her slower while doing the same thing) and her harassment tools. They didn't show off Alex's full movelist in his trailer, so maybe it's not as bad as it seems but she doesn't have the slide Neck snap, or the High/Low Kick series, or the command back flip for Kunai mix ups, or even that rad jumping double kick.

Her costume is seriously the worst though. She put on a high school uniform top over her ninja gear. It's a lazy idea done pathetically bad. It looks so ugly.

I feel really dumb for being this disappointed in a character change, but the trailer showed off very little about what I found fun about the character previously. I'm kind of worried what they'll do with Urien next.

everyone needs a gimmick to fit into their dumb v-system and they couldn't come up with anything cool while keeping this games commitment to Hard Reads And Commitment

A popular theory is that Capcom intentionally made the game respond this slow to inputs so it can act as a buffer for online play and make both offline/online feel the same. The issue with this is that there's very little communication from Capcom's side to confirm this and it just doesn't feel right to basically have permanent +130ms ping.

edit: the price tag is a big turnoff too, $60 is too high until they fix a mountain of issues and add a base level of content expected for the game

But no, 3S Ibuki's daggers were a great way to pull back and harass and with good placement would let you stop incoming aggression and punish people for being out of place. Why limit that tool when your core game function already fucks that up by giving everyone but maybe 5 cast members a way to eat projectiles? Kunai was poo poo in 3S and was only good for giving the other guy meter or as a way to delay your fall to bait people trying to tech empty jump throws.

Kunais are traditionally not projectiles so projectile-specific counters or invincibility shouldn't apply to them, with the downside that they don't cancel out other projectiles and will clash with hitboxes and fall out of the air. Though Capcom will probably gently caress that up too.

This is really interesting. Most of my experience with fighting games is with Smash, but introducing extra input lag seems like a really dumb idea.

If you look up the first thread, we kept bitching about normals feeling "stubby" and people kept countering that argument showing that the ranges were similar. At the time we didn't know about input lag, but I'm pretty sure that's what we were "feeling", and that video demonstrates it pretty well.

lack of content, input lag, and lack of communication have been the biggest actual problems for the game. i could buy the "input lag was intentional" thing, except pc users have a way to alter settings and minimize it, giving them an advantage.

personally, i think the most egregious thing is the fact that the cash shop never went live. let people pay $5 for colors so you can generate some income while you finish your game. this one is the weirdest one to me because i feel like businesses want money.

i like the core game. i enjoy playing and watching street fighter v quite a bit. haven't played ranked in a while, hit super gold today. good times.

That's sort of true for Ryu, but after playing a bunch of ST Chun and O.Sagat most characters pokes feel either unacceptably slow or really short.

They could fix all the technical problems, but the characters just feel too limited. Choosing a fighting game character should be choosing your toolbox not your can.

sfv feels like its underwater during matches. reaction based play is very difficult
matchmaking takes forever in ranked modes and when you find a match you very often get rage quit on if the other player is much higher rank because beating you is worth nothing to them and losing would mean a whole day of work lost.
In lobbies you spend more time kicking randos from another continent with bad connection than you do playing because there is no signal strength filter
There are only a few complete feeling characters and very little variation in play styles
The single player modes are awful
Everything costs incredible amounts of in game currency with no cash store available. you get 50fm for winning a match. you need to win 2000 matches to earn a character and hundreds of matches to buy stages or costumes.
they feel the need to take the servers down once a week for maintenance while other games don't need to do so.
Character models are very uneven across the cast in terms of quality and nearly all of them have horrendous clipping problems on the select screen that make the game look like a huge joke.
i could go on but i'd rather get back to playing a better game like xrd where every character is radically different, fully realized, and part of a great package of content

i'll check in to play ibuki for a bit i guess i liked her trailer.
