Gob, would you consider taking part in any of the wide variety of goon-run CYOAs? You can help decide what a Mesopotamian prince kills, which god you support, what school of magic you decide to study, if you kick a dead giant's ghost out of your body, if you'll try to amass and unionize a skeleton army, etc.

The master list is here but it needs to be updated
http://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=3764360

There won't be much consistancy between the entries because that'd require editing and I'm doing this piecemeal.

The sole GBS CYOA is Wizard of Warlock Tower. It'll wind up being turned into an SA Frontpage article after it's finished, just like the other ones Saint Isaias Boner did. He's also running a kickstarter to turn a CYOA into a real printed book! The kickstarter is for a game called Star Bastards!

Lowel has a Warhammer 40k game but it's on hold while it gets converted to a non-trademarked space fantasy setting novel. Unlike the others, it rarely featured artwork with it's updates.

ParadoxGentleman just started one which involves being in charge of a town of monsters. You're civilized, but you're also prime targets for hunting.

dog kisser's "fragil gods of somewhere" is easy to jump in to. You're either one of 5 gods, or your a wisp. If you're a wisp you can vote a god's action up or down. Also, cheese made out of chocolate milk is a thing and Bison from Street Fighter was a god once.

"Adventures benieth an alien sea" is in the middle of a story where we rescued someone, we're being attacked by something, and things are otherwise going to hell. As per usual

I lost track of "Mutants: Uprising" but it's going strong and it's well loved. I asked other people in the CYOA chatroom about it and was told "[00:43] <DC> "The players had the option of playing a supervillian. Instead, they chose a zombie"." This is probably a good thing.

Songs of Goons and Murder is on hold for school reasons. I lost track of it too.

The Cthulhu thread features people who keep voting wrong. The book heist looks like a trap and doing it the way Red wants us to makes us look like her lapdog! We're a dignified art-theif, art-critic, and socialist damnit!

"Cookies are really fun and easy to make and delicious" isn't a CYOA but it is interactive in that people are encouraged to make cookies and share stuff about cookies

TheCog will have an update for "From the Darkness" up just as soon as he finishes writing it. We're about to colonize a new star system because Aliens Independence Day'd the solar system and Jeff Goldbloom was dead by then. But he wanted us to know what happened to the last people who tried to colonize a new star system. Things went poorly.

Diogines effectively kept the CYOA format alive on SA once the robosexual era ended. He currently has a CYOA where we're a Mesopotamian stronger-than-average teen that killed a bear using a spear thicker than the barrels of some artillery pieces. The thread consensus is this is a good start to proving we're a man, but it's only a start. He also had a CYOA where we were a god of sex and alcohol. And a CYOA where we were Mesopotamian superman. But I'm too lazy to look them up.

Swedish Thaumocracy has a CYOA where we fight monsters. We're essentially voting on what our character should do in a modified DnD 5.0 session. Monsters were killed, rewards claimed, it's fun! We're even in an "it's complicated" with a Salamander Lady who likes killing monsters and using their skin for leather work.

"You are a tree" is a misleading title. Yes, we are a tree, but we have knowledge of true names. We share our roots and trunk with a dead giant. Nematoads sing songs to us on request. Also, we're trying to solve a mystery and stop a war

The title to this CYOA is a reference I don't get. It's set in medieval warhammer 40k where we have magic so now it's off to wizard school. Also, we disappeared the sword that'd just stabbed us in the heart while protecting a lady from a murderous jerkwad.

Nyaa's Legend of Wulin Ripple of Heaven had voting, but now its mostly story. It's a good story, but hardly a CYOA story.

Talos is almost best because LordVonEarlDuke keeps embracing my ideas. Like making the void mage elf our lover. And flirting with him before we made him our lover. We're about to investigate what destroyed a city.

Before I forget, do you ever hang out in the goon IRC channels?

Edit: I'd say that the big names in SA CYOA's are Diog, Lowel, and Saint Isaias Boner. Diog and Lowel have written several large novels worth of material. Diog doesn't have the time to novelize his stuff because he's working on the CYOA constantly. Lowel is working to turn his stories into a multi-arc book series. And Saint Isaias Boner is turning his CYOA premise into an actual book that'll be out this year.

Oh man, where to start. Okay, so, you know how sometimes you see an avatar where there's a robot doing something erotic? Like,
https://fi.somethingawful.com/customtitles/title-outrail.jpg

There used to be a whole lot more. Dozens at one point. The Robosexual Era gets its name because of an event from the second "Your Life Sucks" CYOA. The player character was seduced by a gold android. This inspired someone to buy a a lot of people robosexual avatars. To me the Robosexual Era retroactively covers the first "Your Life Sucks", extends into the "Your Ship Sucks" CYOAs, and ends with the start of the historical CYOAs set in Rome and Greece. I lump them together because those CYOA authors were friends with or acquaintances of the different "Sucks" authors.

Diog's "Mad God" happened concurrently with an ancient Rome CYOA but I think he was separate from the other authors. For practical purposes the end of "Mad God" was the end of CYOAs in GBS. Diog started a new one, "Paradise Lost" but it was exiled to the Games thread a few weeks in. Diog's epic-length CYOAs inspired Lowel to do his own epic-length CYOA. They both inspired other people in Traditional Games to do their own CYOAs. In fact, there are over 12 active at last count. Unfortunately this era doesn't have a catchy name like the Robosexual Era.

There were other CYOA's between Diog's and Lowel's of course. Several of them were even in GBS before being featured on the SA Front Page. But this is already long and boring enough.

Here, have Diog's and Lowel's avatars.

It wasn't a comprehensive history of SA CYOAs. Just a breakdown on two distinct periods of them.

For example, I didn't mention the one which was like a CYOA version of what SPORE was supposed to be, and the Red Green Blue one where a little girl fought against being brainwashed but got brainwashed. And it's sequel where she rebelled and overthrew the brain washers. And Dropsy. And the gay peacock god one done by the person who also had a CYOA where goons turned a person into a serial killer and had a demon take on the devil. And the Wolverine one where I suggested we declare joinder on Donald Trumps rear end.

Having said that out loud I think I could break down the CYOA's down into a few distinct types based on how image or text heavy they are and how participation happens. But I wont. Because too much effort.
