So I asked y'all rad cads to make a vote on your hella favourite Warhammer Fantasy races and turns out you're all loving wrong. The Skaven? Oh geeze, you guys. This'll be tough. Okay! 'Ere we go. I'm playing Geheimnisnacht, a fantastic Warhammer Fantasy mod for the even more fantastic game Crusader Kings 2. The mod encompasses almost the entire world, excluding only (as far as I know) Cathay, though we'll be seeing very little of it. Because, you see, we're not going to be playing on its surface. We'll be playing as the Skaven.  That's right, we're playing as these fuckers. I think that specific fucker might be clan Pestilens, but even if he's a heretical moron idiot bumfaced dumbo, he's still a Skaven - and every Skaven is all of those things. The Skaven are a race of rat people who live beneath the surface, in a huge, inter-continental cave system known as the Under-Empire. There they were all born and there almost every single one of them dies, though every Skaven dreams of the day they'll rise to the surface to conquer and annihilate everything and everyone. They outnumber every race combined and their dream of conquest would be easily made a horrible reality, if they weren't a bunch of moron idiot bumfaced dumbos who are too paranoid and treacherous to go even a single day without murdering each other. The Skaven are constantly splintered and fighting endless civil wars between each other, with no clan being able to unify them under a single banner.  We'll be playing as Clan Skryre, the current rulers of the Skaven capital of Skavenblight (nice name, dumbos) and thus the most powerful of all the vermin clans. Skryre is the best clan because they've got the best guns. Clan Skryre has these lil' dudes called Warlock-Engineers, who are a mix of tinkering inventors and chaos wizards. They combine warpstone, magic and technology to make great and terrible weapons of war, such as the Poisoned Wind grenades, the Warpfire-Throwers and the Warp-lock Jezzail. I think that last one is a gun, but I don't actually know. Point is they've got the biggest, meanest arsenal in the entire Under-Empire, one that's so crazy good that the Skryre clan alone can rival any surface nation in raw fire power. Yet before we can even start thinking about conquering the surface, we need to conquer an even more dangerous foe. We'll have to subjugate and conquer the rest of the Skaven, at least enough so that we can turn our eyes to the surface. That's what we'll be doing today!  and promises of semi-random dungeon exploration intrigued the poo poo out of me. I was intrigued, and money left my wallet as if by magic, and now we're stuck with a Schroedinger's Game until I finally open that stupid box and let everything out except for hope. That's how that works, right? Come on in and check it out if you're into monster raising or old-school-wannabe RPGs. This one makes a pretty hefty promise by proudly proclaiming itself to be infinite and endless, but I personally see such claims as 1) Huge red flags; did you play to level infinity to make sure that the game balance was still all right? and 2) Cocky as gently caress. Who the hell do you think you are, calling your indie game infinite? But whatever, we'll see! As you can see by the image above, the writing is top-notch at least. I'm not here to drink your dog piss, I'm here to catch 'em all Okay, so my opinion so far is that the game is good! A lot of big problems as far as coherent graphical design and all that, but it's a solid game, with apparently a lot of weird strategies to pull out. Whew, crazy day at work but now time to kick back and relax with some Rune Factory 3. We're wrapping up summer, should still be another festival or two to go, even though I don't think anything is going to beat playing rock-paper-scissors with a 10 year old to win her magic gardening implements. I'll also be trying out the dungeon in our basement and a couple other things I was waiting until "later" to experiment with. If any of that sounds like fun, come on by! Edit: Done! Won an epic struggle against a giant duck then managed to barely survive running through stuff in the next dungeon to do a request for Raven. Playing on Hard really messes with the pacing, it feels like-- the game wants me to hit dungeon 3 but I can't do it "easily" yet. Oh well. Continuing my Ork campaign in Total War: WARHAMMER! I've conquered and united the entirety of the badlands, fully destroyed an invading Chaos Horde and we marched into the north to destroy the last surviving Ork clan. We also declared war on the Dwarves again and got suckered into going to war against the Empire as well. Wasn't a big deal, we had an absolutely massive Waaagh! going on. But then the Emperor himself came and cut off our armies, and then the leader of the Dwarves came and annihilated them. To makes things worse, our vassals the Top Knotz went ahead and tried to stab us in the back.  What happened with Siralim 1? How the hell should I know? Anyway, it's a monster raising party v. party RPG, sort of a cross between Dragon Quest Monsters and roughly 500 other influences that I can name. I've literally just dipped my toe in so far, so we got a lot of ground to cover. Oh! And not only can you rename all your monsters, but also yourself, your artifacts (equip items), and on top of all that, you can swap costumes! It's cosmetic, sure, but the idea that the almighty wizard-king of the kingdom of Siralim is a white cat that don't do poo poo is hilarious to me. Tears shed for the Treasure Golem: 12 I switched over to Danganronpa after some grinding, y'know, to put the kids to sleep. Now it's like five AM and uh, should I be sleeping?
