So I just accepted a job offer earlier in the week. I'll be getting out of sales and going back into a managerial position for more money.

While it seems all well and good I'm definitely going to miss the guys I work with, they are all good dudes. What sucks even more is one of the guys got interviewed for the same job a couple months ago but turned it down and is now regretting it.

It's going to put me back into what I did for about 8 years before I took this sales position and while I think it will be good it's sort of nerve wracking. Who knows maybe I'm over thinking it and should just not care.

The first and only time I've seen NOFX, someone whipped a tallboy at Fat Mike who proceeded to catch it, chug what was left of it, and hurl it straight back into the crowd and kept singing.

Also if you're in a punk band, it's pretty much expected to get spit on and poo poo thrown at you everywhere you play.

I've seen them quite a few times, but that was the only one in Dallas. Apparently it was a common reaction to the band in that city.

The walls are completely blank and I'd love to put up something to fill the giant white spaces. Can anyone help me with links to hi def images of small block V8's or iconic NASCAR races or pictures? I'd love to print some out and frame them to put up in his garage. I believe Tony Stewart is his favorite driver if that helps.

I don't know if this is a UK thing, but what the hell is up with people recommending a DPF removal? You really have to be a selfish dicklord to do that. I come across it on many UK forums with diesel cars.

It's just one of Those Things, I've noticed it on the UK Peugeot 406 forum I sometimes read. Every time the subject of diesel engines comes up, the very first reply will recommend a DPF removal, EGR disable and chip tune, guaranteed.

Their claimed reasoning is that the DPF/EGR system robs performance and is expensive to fix when/if it goes wrong. Considering the age of the Peugeot 406, it's likely that a diesel model will have to have its DPF replaced soon-ish, plus the filters used by that generation Peugeots/Citroëns needs special "Eolys" fluid added, which can be expensive. So most of the complaints are because people are cheapskates, and because they don't understand that you have to rev above a certain RPM with the engine warm before the EGR opens, so if they never rev above 2000rpm, the EGR flap will break, so they think removing it is a good idea.

I won't argue that the 2.2 HDi in particular has a lot of untapped potential, if you "uncork it". 130hp stock, but 180hp is easily attainable with a DPF/EGR delete and a tune. It'll be a gross polluter, but the owners obviously don't care about minor details like that.

In a general sense, I guess it comes from the bad old days when diesel emissions control systems were really lovely, and the filters clogged and needed to be replaced regularly (if you could even get a new one). Just like how people used to remove the catalytic converters because they actually used to rob an appreciable amount of power. It just hasn't been true for a long time.

Yeah, I know, same reasoning on the Alfa forums. At least in the Swedish Alfa club forums they said that deleting DPF should be ground for being kicked out (lol) of the club.
I'd prefer not people spread cancer for a slightly more powerful engine.

DPFs aren't even that expensive anymore, and I think many of the problems are owner errors anyway.

That being said, hopefully I'll get to test drive a 159 2.4 JTDM later on. 200hp and 400nm should be decent.

Had the same engine in a 156 and it was really good. One thing to check is that it is running a metal impeller water pump and not a plastic one as they cease and take the timing belt with them.

I dunno, I like the low end toque in a diesel. I do enjoy our V70 D3 diesel. poo poo for 0-100km/h, but I never have to worry when passing people on country roads. Compare to my old '98 GDI Carisma with half the torque and ~20 less HP. In a 400-500kg light car and it's night and day. Passing was poo poo in that car.

I dunno man. Every small car diesel I've driven (1.9 vw tdi) was gutless as poo poo and prone to stalling unless you wind it up. The 3.0L diesels in the X5 were weak, the Mercedes diesel in the grand cherokee was weak. The only thing I've been in that didn't feel like utter poo poo with a diesel was a friends Ram 2500 with a 6 speed and a Cummins turbo diesel. THAT had torque.

It's a USA thing as well. You would be hard pressed to find a 2007+ diesel pickup will all the emissions intact. Especially a Cummins ram. It's the first thing that goes.

I used to take my mothers 1L 3 pot Turbo Diesel out once a month to thrash the nuts off it so it would clean out all the gunk the ERG had collected. They are fine as long as you get it up to temp but she was just doing short trips in it so never cleared anything out. Of course after all the years of diesels being pushed in Europe they are now finding that they were snake oil all along.

Oh yeah I know that feeling. Test drove a Renault 1.5 Mégane just to see if I can stand the motor. It wasn't that bad, but I almost stalled it a couple due to being used to the torque of the Volvo.

Alfa 159 trip report: The car as a car is very nice. Good driving position, even for a tall person like me. 2.4 diesel was nice to drive and did shift. It was spoiled by that the whole car was not close to the good condition on the pictures in the ads, but rather looked like it had done twice the miles (which it hasn't, I've checked the records). Stone chips and some parking dents. Loads of stains on the inside. The clutch felt weird, grabbed very early.

Needless to say, I didn't buy it. But I did like how it was to drive. The 2.4 was fun and sounds good for a diesel, but I'm not sure I really need it.That's also the problem with the diesel popularity - it's hard to find a petrol one. Diesels are very popular in Sweden. On older models the tax is 2-3x higher than the petrol versions. But diesel is slightly cheaper and gets you further. I'd much prefer a petrol in the end, because I don't really need a car, which means I want the unavoidable costs like tax to be low. Better for the conscience as well as I much prefer higher CO2 to higher NOX.

Spent much of today attempting some woodwork (I'm building a small kitchen table), trying to do it properly using dowels and glue to hold the frame together rather than just blasting loads of screws into it as is my usual woodwork approach. I did not enjoy it.

I spent ages measuring, cutting and marking it out, and drilling holes for dowels. Built a jig on the end of my workbench using my pillar drill to try and get the holes perfectly straight. Still a bastard to get them to fit properly and a bastard to try and clamp together straight (using a ratchet strap).

Suspect that it is all going to fall apart tomorrow when I remove the ratchet strap and I shall just end up screwing it and fillering the screw heads
