When a tree grows, it is soft and pliable. But when it's dry and hard, it dies.

Hardness and strength are death's companions. Flexibility and softness are the embodiment of life.

That which has become hard shall not triumph.

I get the impression that Evans wasn't chosen for the show but instead forcibly inserted himself via people he knows at the BBC.

He isn't going anywhere, Top Gear is going to go down with the captain.

I think it nailed it. Siarpc was boring and should be skipped, the new one is longer and even more boring so you're basically forced to skip it.

Oh yeah what are they going to do if they have an F1 driver? Are they going to scrap the entire leaderboard and start a new one with the rally track?

It bugs me that they filmed the audience portion for the first four episodes without hearing what everyone would say about the whole show.

I'm guessing they will keep using the original car and track for F1 drivers like they did before when getting new cars.

I wonder if Button played the role of the stig for that one.

These tiny videos illustrate exactly what is great about these three yahoos and why they worked so well on Top Gear. They work so well doing a DHL promotion and it doesn't even have anything to do with cars. You can't committee this sort of chemistry.

It's almost as if hanging out for over a decade will allow three people to become good friends and you have to give it time. Look at Top Gear US. Those three guys had no chemistry when they started and now it's pretty decent.

I actually enjoyed most of this week's TG episode. Evans is still annoying. He's so forcibly excitable that it's irritating. Leblanc is just drat charming. His screentime was great this week.

The Africa challenge was fun, and the guest stars/musicians were really fun to watch.

Keeping that in mind, I think Nu-New Top gear has potential. They're certainly better than any other top gear reboot was on episode 2. The beeb should stick to their guns, Keep Evans/Leblanc/Jordan together and just have the other two constantly make fun of Chris Evans for being a jackass. I'd watch the hell out of that.

I touched on this before, but if i'm in the writers room i'd just say "Embrace the hate, make jokes about the internet reaction". The BBC needs top gear to work, thats the ultimate job security. Acknowledging the criticism with a smile would take all the teeth out of it.

Right? Maybe I'm just lucky to come into this with less baggage than a lot of other posters here, but I'm fine with giving the new Top Gear a season or two to find itself before I write it off entirely.

Although I admit I only say that now; apparently Amazon is giving the old crew a huge budget so there's a decent chance once that pops up I don't come back to the BBC Top Gear.

But still, I love cars; I'm always fine with more shows about cars.

Chances are they will be on at different times of the year so it's not like you have to choose between them.

Yeah as much as I want it to work I think Chris Evans would need to have a serious attitude adjustment and I'm not sure if he is capable of that.

Everybody else I think will gel nicely.

I'm about halfway through E02 and haven't really read much of the thread up until this point but I suspect everyone hates Evans. He's not very good (and jesus he's a terrible dresser), but I'm not sure about the others, either. The old TG cast didn't seem to care whether people liked them; Evans and this cast certainly do - maybe to be expected during the first season and a tough act to follow. It's incredibly less genuine than the old show. LeBlanc seems like he doesn't want to be there, Rory says "Cool" way too much and, like LeBlanc, is good with the camera but has the least to say. It's all too fake to enjoy. Evans & co are trying to entertain us, and it's obviously artificial. Clarkson & co were inherently entertaining because of their genuine relationships and nuttery.

A lot of folks seem to be advocating for a Chris Harris/Sabine/Tiff hosting trifecta. Chris is great on his own show but seems positively wooden when you take him out of a car and put him on a couch like on ExtraGear. Tiff's charisma also comes through much more in the car and he lacks the sarcastic bent I think is needed to succeed on TG. Sabine is a fantastic driver and a little quirky, but like the others, not great when you take her out of a car. I think Harris/Tiff/Sabine would put on an excellent car show, but one that wasn't at all funny.

The new track and celeb format also sucks and Extra Gear shouldn't be necessary, the show should be good enough to stand on its own and have all the good stuff under the same tent.

Nill

Ditch the studio and do all host segments from Sabine's crazy German/Canadian/Texan Saloon. Guests drive down the road and do a lap of the Nürburgring.

LeBlanc definitely seems to be warming into the role, carrying the lion's share of the South African challenge segment. Harris has to work on tuning out the studio audience. And Rory just needs to stop trying so drat hard.

Evans is irredeemable, feed him to Sabine's murderpig.

This episode was much improved over the first episode, though Chris Evans was still pretty bad. The McLaren video and the challenge were both fun (McLaren in spite of Evans not really offering up much other than being a body driving a car for most of it). Count me as cautiously optimistic going forward. If I keep getting really pretty cars and really pretty locations I'll watch. There were even a few moments in there where LeBlanc and Evans seemed to have some sort of rapport with each other.
