I just can't get over how much the Batuikverse bends over backwards to fawn all over Les Moore's stupid loving novels. Like, there's no reason anyone would read a book about an rear end in a top hat minor TV personality or a woman dying slowly of cancer after every other terrible thing that happened to her.

e: Wait, didn't the woman who was going to start her own bookstore in her house die? Isn't that the death we've been stuck on for two weeks?

I dunno man, that minor TV personality was murdered by an insane former guest who called himself Plantman, and the guy who wrote the book solved the case while writing the book. I'd read that book.

If it wasn't written by Les Moore

Those are some 'comedy' people in the lead and director, so it might at least not be played as a serious affair. Peoples and Peoples are interesting. One half involved in scripting Blade Runner and Unforgiven, then as a team they wrote Twelve Monkeys.

Will probably be a hilarious failure, if it ever even gets made.

Maybe they'll get Kai Greene as Lothar, Ulambayaryn Byambajav as Hojo, Emma Watson as Princess Narda, and Patrick Stewart as Theron. I'd go see it.

I'm normally not as down on Luann as most in this thread. For example, often when Tiff does positive and thoughtful things I think it's because the writer wants to portray her as positive and thoughtful.

This, though, is really rubbing me the wrong way. Gunther is just dripping with entitlement in this scene, and I'm not getting any sense that we're supposed to do anything other than sympathise with him and consider Bernice insensitive. :( I'd love to believe that Gunther's being set up for a comeuppance here, but it's not looking good.

Well, though it's not 100%, the commenters in the Luann section of GoComics are usually a pretty accurate representation of how the reader is supposed to react. Let's see what they think:

I hope we get another unflattering revenge fantasy out of Judge Parker, though it'll be hard to top the one where the judge met the only book critic who hated his novel, and he insulted her so astutely that her own husband turned on her and everyone applauded.

Admirable use of imagery from Guy Gilchrist there as he lists textbooks and pop quizzes and alarm clocks and makes sure to show in the associated panel several textbooks, an alarm clock and a sheet of paper legibly identified as a pop quiz, but sadly fails to include pencils in the list, which only serves to confuse things.

The first Phantom took on the identity in 1536. The current Phantom is the 21st and took over from his father somewhere between 1930ish and 2000-ish, depending on when the comic you're reading was published. That makes the average tenure of a Phantom somewhere about 20-23 years. If we assume Phantoms tend to have kids around the start of their careers then the average Phantom would be lucky to see 40. If they wait a few years to settle into the role and find a wife who they can trust and who can accept the lifestyle, it might be more likely that they're taking over at age 15 and are dead by 35. And if there were a few long-lived Phantoms then the median career length could be considerably shorter.

It's pretty straightforward: Crankshaft takes place now, ten years before Funky Winkerbean, which takes place now. Back in now they had social media, but over a decade later in now, Fallen Star came out in 1997. But as now is now, now can't be 1997, so now Fallen Star came out back in now.
