That reflects Trump’s large advantages among white women who lack a college degree and white men overall – especially less-educated white men, a group Mitt Romney won by 31 points but in which Trump currently leads by a breathtaking 62 points, 76-14 percent.

Minority voters and college-educated white women accounted for a combined total of 45 percent of all voters in 2012. Clinton’s current lead in this aggregated group is 65-25 percent, compared with Obama’s 66-32 percent in 2012.

Less educated white men are swinging for Trump more than Romney because they are angry racists. Thank God their numbers are declining and presidential elections aren't about them any more.

Racism surely is a factor but Trump's rhetoric is a lot more appealing to the white working class, Romney basically wrote them off as poor scum.

That's good, and less educated white guys who aren't racists certainly exist, but it's no coincidence that Trump's more blatant racism as compared to Romney has fueled his popularity among that demographic.

I think to be a Trump supporter you have to be comfortable with racism, but it's a mistake to write off all his support as being purely motivated by racism.

I gotta say, this should pass.

Boehner is allowed three staffers: one administrative assistant making up to $158,486 a year and two secretaries who can make up to $133,108 and $116,104, respectively. (The amounts are indexed to inflation, so the salaries can rise over those five years.)

I know these numbers are almost meaningless in budget terms but it's still stupid.

quote:

There’s not a lot of enthusiasm. There’s some resignation and some mixture of fear and loathing to think about what the next couple months will bring given the statements that he has made,” Flake said.

Amid this agitation for a Trump alternative, Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker’s name has been increasingly mentioned as a possible replacement. Walker was an early frontrunner in the GOP primary, but he suspended his campaign last summer in the face of sagging fundraising and poll numbers.

Walker previously said he would ultimately support the GOP nominee. But on Tuesday, Walker backed away from supporting Trump, pointedly saying, “He’s not yet the nominee.”

The conservative site RedState reported Wednesday that there are “rumors” that Walker is “open” to such an outcome. And one source who has been involved in the effort to recruit an independent candidate said Walker has told those working to find an alternative that he would be willing to serve as an alternative at the convention if Trump continues to implode.

There is literally no upside to your principled stance, the best case scenario is that it doesn't matter and the worst is that it helps Trump and his down ticket allies.

Donald Trump is a bad candidate but this would be much more damaging for the party. If you tell voters we don't care who you voted for in the primary, they probably won't vote for the guy they didn't want.

Of course downticket matters - find out who each candidate is and make the best decision you can.
