Giving a pass because of whomever that person is, and especially because he or she is beloved by their constituency would be a mistake. Hence an FBI investigation that won't indict probably but will probably be a goddamn case study in how not to try contravening the Federal Records Act by running things out of your house in a cabinet position.

My position boils down to: if drones are being used for things we would normally use planes for, they are an unequivocal good on all counts. When they enable things we would never use a plane for, it becomes an interesting conversation but I am cautiously pro drone if the procedures involved aren't garbage.

That criterion is, admittedly, a topic of some concern.

The enabling things we would never use a plane for is the big sticking point, though. Things like the "High Value Target Assassination" drone program have largely washed away the public perception of drones being anything more than remote killing, and the leaked report on the HVTA program paint it as useful addition to counter-insurgency tactics, but rapidly detrimental if leaned on too heavily. The report came out in 2009, but the usage of drones in this manner has gone up significantly, and has stayed elevated compared to the years before the report.

I am concerned as the folks telling us who to point these things at tend to be the CIA, and what with the various other leaks about black sites and the CIA's love of war crimes I am not super keen to trust their judgement on who they pick out as targets.

Ah good old Prestor.

Anyone can correct me if I am wrong but the current GOP tries to cater to 3 very distinct planks.

Plank one are the sugar daddy's the 1%. The good old Rockefeller republicans. The leaders of the free market fighters of the dreaded communism. But with the fall of the USSR in the 90s we are going on to like 30 years of victory so their credibility in the public eye seems to have weaken alot. Now the are being replaced with the Liberian ryndians etc.

Plank Two: The racist basically the people that started coming to the party from the passing of the civil rights act and the capstone was some speech given by reagon with the magic words "STATES RIGHTS" This are trumps core supporters. They want all none whites out and gone now.

Plank three: The fundamentalists These are the people prestor has alot of first time experience with. They are choosen by god, They free prosecution by the goverment, UFO's, Satanists, The would love for the goverment to be nothing short of theocracy, but only provided that its their specific flavor of theocracy. The GOP used wedge issues like GAY,s Public displays of the ten commandments prayer in school abortion, etc to appeal to them.

You can see that these groups honestly have nothing in common the rich people love the cheap labor and what ever money they can squeeze out of illegals, so they arent gonna be gung ho for the racist (besides beinga bigot is bad for business) Like wise they dont wanna go on the moral crusades of the third group.

Plank TWO would loving love them some well fare along with labor and trade protections, but WHITES ONLY.

Plank Three: Honestly have no idea what they want other than I guess in the 1980s it was the complete censorship of all media. The internet kinda killed that push. Along with showing that access to porn wasnt gonna make us all sex crazed rapists. I kinda wish all the people in the 1980s who cried about music and toys and called the smurfs homosexual zombies got called on the carpet for how things worked out.

Anyway.

In what group does trump belong? I would say none. He is out for himself believes what every he wants when ever he wants. He is commanding the Racist group and the GOP is afraid to lose them.

Which I find so loving odd.

Untill the war on terror Muslims, voted conservative, hell it would be easy to use socail issues to grab the Latino vote. But the racism just puts them in the D camp.

I don't post here often but I've had a bit of experience in government level info sec as I worked in the industry around the time of Clinton becoming SoS.

At the time there was no such thing as receiving classified email on a mobile device that wasn't a specially built device. Here's a good example of state of the art circa 2008 - https://gdmissionsystems.com/cyber/products/secure-voice/sectera-edge/

It's very likely that the state dept had no mechanism for delivering classified email to smartphones and the only option would be unclassified email.

State department email servers live on OpenNet, which is an unclassified network.

Those servers she could have used are the same State Department email system that was hacked. That's the alternative, not some better more secure email.

I'm not defending her mistake, just pointing out how the massively larger issues are being ignored to focus on the private email server.

Since you're just curious and still open to changing your mind, consider that the main accusation is that someone forwarded Clinton an email that criticized a public article. No one has ever had any evidence anyone manually copied classified data into a regular email:

quote:

The State Department has both classified and unclassified systems — known informally as the “high side” and the “low side.” The classified system has tight controls, often housed in what is known as a Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility (SCIF); it is not possible to “cut and paste” from the classified system into the unclassified system. Instead, one would have to extract the information from the classified system and then reenter it manually into the unclassified system. Thus far, no one has alleged that happened.

Instead, congressional aides say, the concern centers on the fact that secret information was revealed as part of an email exchange. In at least one case, the discussion started with an aide forwarding a newspaper article; then in subsequent exchanges, aides revealed sensitive details as they discussed (for instance) the shortcomings of that public report. Ultimately the email chain ended up in Clinton’s email box. If the email chain was released, some intelligence officials believe, it would confirm aspects of a secret program.

Clinton’s private email system was designed to deal with the unclassified communications, similar to the unclassified state.gov email account. Clinton claims it was for convenience; others suspect it was to prevent reporters or political opponents from easily obtaining her emails through the Freedom of Information Act.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/fact-checker/wp/2016/02/04/how-did-top-secret-emails-end-up-on-hillary-clintons-server/

Of course the great irony is we got to read more of her emails because of the stupid server.

Though yea, it feels like the GOP and their info machine has made mountains out of every molehill they could find, hoping that something would stick, and what concerns me is the number of Bernie supporters being sucked into it uncritically because despite them being left wing, it seems like they have been conditioned to believe that all the smoke from Hillary means that there is fire.

Also, classification after the fact is a thing and sensitive information is not the same as classified, though one can turn into the other later, or be considered such by someone from another department.
