You may as well get a EVGA FTW or SC which are cheaper for the FE? I mean the FTW is 20 cheaper on Ebuyer than an FE etc, there are cheaper better cards than an FE.

Yeah they normally do and they are on nowinstock UK. I've generally been checking overclockers, scan, aria and Ebuyer for years when grabbing parts but do keep my eye out generally so newer things like now in stock are useful.

So just to check, are all the currently-available 1070s considered Founders Editions? I've heard the price £329 thrown around, but obviously none of the models which I can see online are at that price point, closer to £400.

Amazon UK have the Asus STRIX-GTX1070-O8G-GAMING for £469.99 That is not 3rd party, either

I'm joking, I'm buying one myself, it's obviously high-end as far as currently available cards go. One day, inshallah, it will be considered a card for grandmothers as the rest of us are watching porn in 8K with our virtual reality headsets or whatever.

If the 480 turns out to be really similar to the 970, would it be worth getting the 8GB version? Is the 970 constrained by ram at 1080p or 1440p?

Max settings on ME seem to be pretty much designed to choke cards with less than 8 GB. They really aren't worth doing because it just cranks the draw distance on shadows and other really low impact stuff. Still probably should go for 8 GB, lets you run huge textures with some of the settings a bit lower which is usually a way to make games look quite nice.

Salt cube: https://www.reddit.com/r/Amd/comments/4noslj/rx480_leaksrumors_timeline_megathread/ NDA is June 29th? And someone claims to have a card sample showing it's what we all expected.... What is AMD doing if they're not allowing third party results out there

However the 390 regularly drops to 40fps on Hyper, so that setting is beyond the sensible limits of the GPU. On the more appropriate Ultra preset the 970 does fine with ~3.5GB. Still, may as well get 8GB if it's only $30 more. Who knows what the future holds. repiv fucked around with this message at 20:00 on Jun 12, 2016 |

RX480 is going to be much closer to a 980, +/-10%, so 8GB might actually be worth it (especially running stupid high textures). The RX470 looks to be the 970 performance candidate, although that really depends on how the Polaris 10 cuts shakedown. My understanding is the RX480 is currently the "Pro" version of the die, with the RX490 being XT and RX470 being LE, and their CU counts are anything from 40/36/32 to 48/36/24 (this is based on the old theory that Hawaii is actually 48CU and laser cut to 44CU because yields always sucked, due to specious math if I understand correctly). I personally like the 44/36/28 theory myself, if only because it's a smooth transition down the stack if you consider Polaris 11's 20CU. We basically won't know until the 29th which is supposed to be the NDA on all technical details of Polaris drop.
