I know how you feel. My nephew just turned six 4 days ago and I had promised him my 970 to replace his 560 ti and now we're waiting for stock to come in and he doesn't even understand how something can be sold out.

I was pretty much nailed on to get a 1070, but after seeing the prices for the AIB ones I might as well splurge and go for the a 1080 FE which are pretty much the cheapest on scan.co.uk barring the base msi 1080.

You may as well get a EVGA FTW or SC which are cheaper for the FE? I mean the FTW is 20 cheaper on Ebuyer than an FE etc, there are cheaper better cards than an FE.

Could look at Nowinstock since it lists all the product listings side by side with pricing.

Yeah they normally do and they are on nowinstock UK.

I've generally been checking overclockers, scan, aria and Ebuyer for years when grabbing parts but do keep my eye out generally so newer things like now in stock are useful.

Pretty sure $500 is not entry level.

So just to check, are all the currently-available 1070s considered Founders Editions?
I've heard the price £329 thrown around, but obviously none of the models which I can see online are at that price point, closer to £400.

Evga sold a couple non-founders on Friday but they sold out pretty much immediately. I think everything else is founders.

70 is higher than 60 but lower than 80, so clearly midrange.

I think that £329 is pretty optimistic considering the pricing for the 3rd party 1080s was about on par with the FE. Maybe it's because I ordered the 1070FE and want to be able to justify dropping £400 on a card but I don't expect any pricing miracles anytime soon

Yeah, I'm kinda expecting the same. Think I'll wait to see how good the 480 is before getting any new cards.

That puts it "mid-range" within nvidia's newest releases. So as long as you disregard the entire rest of the existing market, you are correct.

I'm joking, I'm buying one myself, it's obviously high-end as far as currently available cards go.

High End = Titan
High-Mid = Ti
High-Low = 1080
Mid-High = 1070
Mid-Mid = 1060
Garbage = ATI and anything below

Settled for you loving mooks. With that said I'm trying to get me one of them high-low mid 1080s.

If the 480 turns out to be really similar to the 970, would it be worth getting the 8GB version? Is the 970 constrained by ram at 1080p or 1440p?

Adjust the bass and let the Alpine blast

I just saw a video of the new Mirror's Edge, where the 970 choked at max settings, where the 390 took a huge lead, and that's all down to vram.

For the small amount more they're rumoured to charge for the 8 gig 480, it seems silly to pass it up.

Max settings on ME seem to be pretty much designed to choke cards with less than 8 GB. They really aren't worth doing because it just cranks the draw distance on shadows and other really low impact stuff.

Still probably should go for 8 GB, lets you run huge textures with some of the settings a bit lower which is usually a way to make games look quite nice.

NDA is June 29th? And someone claims to have a card sample showing it's what we all expected.... What is AMD doing if they're not allowing third party results out there :psyduck:

However the 390 regularly drops to 40fps on Hyper, so that setting is beyond the sensible limits of the GPU. On the more appropriate Ultra preset the 970 does fine with ~3.5GB.

Still, may as well get 8GB if it's only $30 more. Who knows what the future holds.

The AUDACITY! The IMPUDENCE! The unabated NERVE!
RX480 is going to be much closer to a 980, +/-10%, so 8GB might actually be worth it (especially running stupid high textures). The RX470 looks to be the 970 performance candidate, although that really depends on how the Polaris 10 cuts shakedown. My understanding is the RX480 is currently the "Pro" version of the die, with the RX490 being XT and RX470 being LE, and their CU counts are anything from 40/36/32 to 48/36/24 (this is based on the old theory that Hawaii is actually 48CU and laser cut to 44CU because yields always sucked, due to specious math if I understand correctly). I personally like the 44/36/28 theory myself, if only because it's a smooth transition down the stack if you consider Polaris 11's 20CU.

We basically won't know until the 29th which is supposed to be the NDA on all technical details of Polaris drop.
