weird, the guy who shot a major gay club up during pride week was a homophobe? I dunno he's got a funny name, pretty sure this is an elaborate ISIS plot. You know what they say at terrorist camp, strike the gays and the nation crumbles...

50 dead. This is officially the worst mass shooting in US history by a pretty large margin.

With the flames of homophobia and transphobia being fanned ever more in some parts of the US, it was sadly only a matter of time before something like this happened. I hope all the assholes who were wringing their hands about trans people in washrooms and similar things realize they have blood on their hands after this incident.

That would require self awareness that their homophobia and transphobia shares a common thread with that of others.

Given the proximity of PTHC to Philly Dyke March, I'm surprised you didn't get TERFs picketing it like they did to the last Dyke March that happened in London two years ago. Then again, PTHC is mostly a smorgasbord of nightly orgies and bad panels, not a hub of trans activism.

I have yet to meet any TERFs. Of course I haven't really been looking for them either. My one friend who is a bit more active and observant of those kind of things did not see any either, so if they were there they were marginalized enough that none of us noticed them. I did not go to any of the panels so I don't know if they were any good, none of the ones on Saturday looked interesting when I was there. Missed out on the orgies too.

I know I'm probably just kneejerking, but... I'm not the only one who wants loving vengeance for this poo poo, right? e: like, gun laws will put a band-aid on the problem, but they won't cure the societal sickness at the root of things like this. We need Stonewall all over again, times a hundred. We need to make it goddamn clear that we're not going to let ourselves be easy targets.

It's also never been a good idea, and if the gay community gets a reputation for violent activity even if it's only for reprisals, it'll loose most of its external support; like it or not, the majority is never comfortable with minorities advocating violence.

If by Stonewall x 1000 you mean massive political protest against homophobia and insane levels of access to incredibly deadly weapons, I'm down. (I also don't personally qualify that as vengeance, but whatever you want to call it.) If you mean VENGEANCE as in direct, personal violence as revenge, then I sympathize but it's time to sit down and watch an afterschool special about how violence only begets violence. We can do better than adopting the tactics of anyone who consider us their enemy.

Something could happen to Muslims because they're already a minority distrusted by the General population. It's important to separate Islamic scripture and teaching, from Muslim people. Was the shooter influenced by Islam? Probably. was this the work of the Islamic community in Orlando? No

Stonewall's anger was directed at the people, you know, actively going into their clubs and poo poo. Like, maybe use this anger to actually get involved instead of pining for the gay civil war which spoiler alert we'd lose p. bad. Like, fuckin hell man black people can't even have a protest saying 'maybe stop murdering us so bad' without tear gas and police rear end beatings, you think we can just decide it's the fuckin hetro Purge?

I consider Norway's response to Breivik (and the fact that he still lives) a true indication of their strength and courage. This is a result of the historic acceptance of homophobic culture in America. The only 'vengeance' to be had is for this tragedy to be remembered as a display of the importance of LGBT acceptance and unity.
