By request in the Season 2 thread, here's a Season 3 thread! S3 was set to premiere tonight, (6/12), but since the first episode allegedly "features" a nightclub shooting, and less than 24 hours before hand was the Pulse nightclub shooting in Orlando, it's been delayed to a later (unknown) date due to the obviously poor timing. Apparently the first episode aired as a "sneak peak" in some markets. New premiere date! This Sunday, June 19th. Plot from Wikipedia: quote:After a global viral pandemic wipes out over 80% of the world's population, the crew (consisting of 218 men and women) of a lone unaffected U.S. Navy Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer, the fictional USS Nathan James (DDG-151), must try to find a cure, stop the virus, and save humanity. It started off with a pretty generic "oh no, virus apocalypse" theme, but they spun that on it's head in Season 2 by already finding a working cure and having widespread production of it. Season 3 them fighting a new threat: a terrorist organization made up of the naturally immune who feel that curing people is against God, and stuff. If there's anything else to add to the OP, let me know! AbrahamLincolnLog fucked around with this message at 23:00 on Jun 18, 2016 |

This show is basically Star Trek: The Original Series with boats instead of starboats. It's less awful than one might expect, despite being so Murica it hurts. (Sometimes, it hurts good.)

Did Rhona Mitra leave the show? I haven't seen her in any of the trailers.

I like how this show is willing to change as the story progresses. One of the (many) failings of LOST was how it tried to hold onto that 'we just got on the island have wtf is even happening?' feel from season one for basically it's entire run. If this show was still in 'were one ship with limited supplies trying to scrap by as we figure out what happened' mode from season one, it would be bad.

They're also not afraid to kill people. In the back of my head I'm always wondering if someone might get killed when they go out because unlike other shows, people actually do. And not just redshirts either.

So do we need spoilers to talk about this since it hasn't aired in the US? What are the rules on that?
|
# ? Jun 14, 2016 16:35 |
|
From the rules:quote:SPOILER RULES: Are you talking about something that's already aired in an episode on the East Coast? Then you don't need spoiler tags. Are you talking about something that you only saw in a preview, or a commercial, or or due to a leaked ANYTHING? Then you need spoiler tags. So I would say yes, needs spoiler tags.

I have no idea where people are getting this info that it aired weeks ago. The premier was the 12th, which was delayed because of the shooting in Orlando. Does anyone have like, a link or something to a listing for it being aired? Even the sites list the upload dates as only yesterday.

Did they pull it from the premiere time slot but forgot to pull it from the repeat 3 hours later, like Spike did with an episode of Bar Rescue once upon a time?

The Season 3 premiere was on June 5th here in Norcal, and it looks like some other places as well. Basically, Cap'n McSteamboat goes to Hong Kong from his government job with President Duck Phillips in KC and Cap'n Jayne and the Firefly is in the Tonkin Gulf and there is a nightclub shootout in Hanoi or Thailand or something. On June 12th they just showed last seasons finale as the placeholder. Keyser_Soze fucked around with this message at 20:02 on Jun 14, 2016 |

Explains why I was so confused when it came up on my DVR. Edit: aired at 11:30 at night for some reason with no fanfare. Maybe they had to fill time or wanted to check buzz on people who died or something. Can't wait for season 3 to kick off, this show is so god drat bad it's good. One thing that surprised me is that they're incredibly consistent with what language the different Asian characters speak such that you can figure out where the bad guys are from if you can recognize it.

I like how Aussie SAS SEAL SPECIAL OPS DUDE is seemingly just doing his own thing and knows insane fight moves to keep up with the Asian dude he fights who of course knows martial arts because why wouldn't he, right guys? I also like how all the Navy people who spend most of their time on the ship seemingly can keep up with infantry tactics-wise. All that said it's a fun show. The battle and fight scenes are exciting, and the acting is decent, and they've got a solid foundation upon which to build the show in the book on which the show is based (although, having not read the entire book, I don't know if the show has surpassed the book's plotting a la GoT). TNT is no HBO or anything when it comes to production quality, writing and acting, but they produce good shows. I'm keeping an eye on Animal Kingdom as well because I like Scott Speedman (so does TNT, apparently), unsure if there's a thread on that one where I can read Australian goons lamenting that yet another foreign TV series or show was remade and Americanized. ne: I have never figured out if bearded blond dude is a Marine or a SEAL? Does anyone know/remember?
