The real issue is the Second Amendment. If you want actual, substantive gun control, the second amendment needs to go. No it doesn't. It wasn't so long ago that the prevailing legal view was that the second amendment wasn't a guarantee of an individual right to gun ownership. DC v Heller probably isn't long for this world without Scalia, IMO.

Whatever reasons existed for including the 2nd amendment originally have long since evaporated and it is causing far more problems than it solves. I am firmly in favor of its repeal. I also don't expect to see it happen before I die.

According to a new CBS poll people have a +2 net approval for Hillary's response to the Orlando attacks. They had a -26 for Trump's. According to a new ABC poll Trump's net favorability went from -23 to -41 since he became the presumptive nominee. The Republicans simple can't let this guy be their nominee.

What Gun Control Advocates Can Learn From Abolitionists Slave ownership was once as entrenched in American life as gun ownership. quote:I feel like after every shooting we have a little cycle where people say, “How can this be happening, we need to figure out a way to stop it,” and then it kind of goes away. I don’t want to say that there is apathy, but I feel like there is a sense of resignation, even among people who believe that something should be done. I feel like there is a certain parallel with people in the 19th century who were living in the North and had a certain distaste for slavery but would kind of shake their heads and say, “It’s just too big.”

I'm also legit excited for Hillary, although I was more excited for Bernie in the beginning. The more I learn about her, the more clear it becomes that the rhetoric against her is at least 80% total nonsense. (However, I've been holding off on majorly celebrating until after the convention because frankly I don't need a bunch of the hardcore Bernie people I'm friends with to drag me into pointless arguments about how Bernie can still totally win this thing. I'm tired of having that dumb conversation.) For me personally, and I suspect for many other women, the fact that she's a woman is exciting NOT because it checks off a box or because of 'identity politics' or whatever - it's because she has a very solid record of advocating for women's and children's needs, and understands them in a way that even the most sympathetic man really just can't. When I read the transcript of her speech to Planned Parenthood it was honestly kind of stunning to see a presidential candidate use the words "we" and "us" and "our history" while talking about abortion and contraception. showbiz_liz fucked around with this message at 17:07 on Jun 15, 2016 |

There is no rush hour - it's gridlock 24/7 on all roads. Evacuate the people, burn it all down, and start over again.

It was a few pages ago that we dismissed the possibility of a Libertarian as an alternative, but in Arizona, it's not so crazy. I don't know if there are any videos of the 2010 gubernatorial debate, but the Republican incumbent Jan Brewer was a complete mess. The Democratic candidate Terry Goddard was taking the debate seriously. Barry Hess, the Libertarian, was there to debate seriously. The Green Party guy just seemed happy to be invited. Jan Brewer... She was an absolute wreck. Edit: C-SPAN saved it: http://www.c-span.org/video/?295287-1/arizona-governor-debate Just watch the opening statements.
