The gums toward the back of his jaw have actual holes from necrosis. I took him in for a post-surgery checkup, yesterday. He's healing, but he is still in very rough shape. The infections are so bad, I've given him two complete courses of antibiotics, and he still had to get an antibiotic shot at the vet's, yesterday. I paid for all kinds of blood work and whatnot on my other cat, because I was so upset about what happened to the first one. The vet said he didn't expect it to show anything in a seemingly healthy, and youngish cat, but that it could be helpful as a baseline for future comparison. I'm glad I had them do it, because some abnormalities did show up, and now I'm treating what we hope is the problem. This is why cattes are adorable, and I wuv them, but will never own one.
