oh for sure. it occurs to me that even in my pretend dream scenario, whatever puppet that the GOPe forces onto TRUMP's ticket as the VP nom would likely just take one step to the right and everything would proceed as normal.

the problem with TRUMP completely imploding right now is that there's still enough time for the GOP to muster some kind of last minute candidate for the general. I don't think they'd win in any event, but why take that chance? I don't want TRUMP to completely collapse into himself like a dying star until at least late September / early October, maybe even the last week of October for maximum chaos. see what happens in a general election when one of the two major parties has a candidate who completely and voluntarily withdraws from the contest.

I think any attempt to remove Trump would be catastrophically worse than just letting him lose. That is actually the maximum chaos scenario.

Maximum chaos is a failed coup where Trump still nets the nomination on the 2nd or 3rd ballot imo.

I would not be shocked by this.

Serious post dumping Lewandowski sounds like it's what the campaign should have done a long time ago, so despite the comedy it's probably a net positive for the campaign, no? He really can't go much lower in the polls anyways.

Okay, let's say that Manafort knows what he's doing and Trump doesn't get in his way too much. There's a month until the convention, is that enough time to set up a real campaign apparatus?

Yeah, dropping this Monday morning seems to be intentional.

Trump controls another couple of news cycle between this and the staff shake up.

Though I'm not sure you want the news cycle to be "republican candidate for president's campaign a complete dumpster fire"

GE campaign spin up takes awhile and usually requires you to put the infrastructure into place during the primary season [and before] and keep it going into the general.

It was becoming obvious, for instance, that Bernie had stopped planning for the general significantly before he actually dropped out, because laying off staff and cutting your national apparatus to pieces causes hell when you try to spin up for the general.

If this were a real campaign he's firing Corey in favor of a campaign manager handpicked by the RNC, in exchange for access to RNC donors and the republicans in exchange get to muzzle him

A mature campaign would see his responsibilities shift while he transitions to more of a "senior adviser" role that doesn't have as much influence over campaign strategy.

Trump just says "you're fired" on Monday morning.
