Today I decided to tear my cube down from 450 powered to 360 unpowered (but with some busted stuff still in like Sol Ring) I wasn't getting to cube very much. Part of that came down to my Cube not being sanction-able since it includes some proxies and I really don't feel like sleeving up the few pieces of power I have and rolling the dice on a relative stranger not running off with my ridiculously overpriced cardboard. I made the decision that I'd enjoy my cube a lot more if I could get to draft it more often, and I'd draft it more often if it was sanctionable and didn't include power and some other really expensive stuff.

I took a quick pass at making cuts and stuff at work and I ended up here:

Can it not be sanctioned as a 'casual' draft event if there are proxies? Because one of my LGSs has been doing just that.

The duals are Unlimited, the art on the visual spoiler doesn't represent what's in my cube, I just went with whatever edition popped up first. I've never taken the time to have it appropriately reflect editions, judge foils, etc.

You cannot sanction any sort of play with proxies at all. This is a relatively recent change to policy. You might want to warn your LGS so they don't face problems (or might not, I'm not one to Judge)

Technically it's not allowed, but it's pretty much a don't ask/don't tell type thing.

Sol Ring is most definitely power, it seems even worse without moxes and stuff because now only one person gets broken mana acceleration. Balance doesn't seem very fair either.

I like the idea of taking out Vampire Hexmage or Oona's Prowler for Relentless Dead from SoI. It gives you another zombie for gravecrawler and nobody plays those other cards anyways.

I think you need more ramp targets, or cut some of the lesser green ramp enablers for something else.

There's got to be better stuff in B/U than Warped Physique.

Do people actually play Venser? I see it in every cube but at least on Cockatrice nobody ever picks it.

I like both cards a lot. I'm certainly open to hearing cuts for Sol Ring. Balance I think is very powerful but requires you to build, draft, and play in a way to take advantage of it so I think it's worth sticking around for now. Will definitely put it on the list.

Vampire Hexmage for sure is worth cutting. It's in my cube because it's such a unique effect, really though it's never done anything more interesting than kill off a planeswalker or nerf a Shrine of Burning Rage.

I like Oona's prowler a lot, It's can pull double duty as an aggressive evasive creature for aggressive B/R lists, but its also great for reanimation decks to use it to put big butts in the graveyard so I think it's worth keeping (for now at least).

little munchkin posted:

One of the complaints from when the Cube was 450 cards was that there was not much for green to do except ramp. I'm not sure which way to go with the color and it definitely shows in my current list. There are for sure a lot of mana dorks right now. I'm not sure if it was a behavior unique to my previous playgroup but those dudes loved drafting mana dorks so the cube gradually added a lot more than might be necessary.

It'd be nice to make room for some stuff like Rude Awakening, Plow Under, or maybe just more of the best fatties like Avenger of Zendikar and Hornet Queen

On the cutting board are:
Wild Nacatl
Elvish Visionary
Life from the Loam

I'm terrible at removing cards I like them all.

Has anyone tried Plasma Capture in their (non-powered) cube? Any good or bad experiences? I'm deciding if I want to try it in my non-powered 500+ cards Legacy cube.

If it cost UUG it'd already be in. Or possibly even at UU2. At UUGG I'm not so sure.

I don't think it would be super awesome but it's probably fringe playable. Is the typical UG deck in your cube super rampy or is it more of a tempo deck? The ramp deck probably doesn't wanna be leaving 4 mana up to maybe be able to mana drain something.

It's often a UGxx deck - the card draw in blue and fixing in green often lead to a multi color goodstuff deck, that often ramps into semi-big threats. Sometimes it's UGB with graveyard shenanigans, but I doubt UUGG is castable in that archetype very often.

Hey guys, I posted my cube a while back, turns out putting a bunch of weird cards and banking on Donate + Delusions of Mediocrity + Vindicate doesn't actually make for interesting games, also I found out going 4 color good stuff wasn't as good as just straight up rushing people down. So I modified it a bunch and came up with this semi-generic looking abomination.

http://www.cubetutor.com/viewcube/17469

I build this cube so that so my friends can play with fun/powerful/expensive cards. I also want a decent amount of powerful and interesting cards in there, without having something oppressive? Well mostly without stuff that give indestructibility/protections, like the swords, so everything can have an easy answer to.

So far the archetypes I build around are the following:

- Naya Tokens
- Naya Aggro
- GW Enchantment
- Worldgorger Dragon combo
- Reanimate / Sneak and Show
- Esper Control
- Small bit of Elves and Goblins

Anyone have any good suggestions for cube storage? I have a 360 card custom cube (complete retheme and custom cards) and I need a good way to transport it. Something with ~500 sleeved card capacity would be ideal to account for lands and accessories. Also, what specific sleeves do you guys use for double sleeving? Thanks.

BaronVonVaderham
Jul 31, 2011

All hail the queen!
For double sleeving I have my entire Cube + Basics in KMC Perfect Fits inside of ProMattes. If it wasn't so drat expensive I'd switch to the new DragonShield Mattes, though....I recently resleeved my commander decks for the first time in years and so far I'm REALLY impressed with those., switched over for Modern and Legacy, too. Problem is they're over 10 bucks per pack of 100 :smith:. I also have almost all the tokens I need with it, but they're just in random junk sleeves, not like they ever get shuffled.

For storage I'm able to fit my double sleeved 600 card cube + Basics + Most tokens in a Holiday Box. It's not great, but it gets the job done. It's finally starting to wear down this summer, but I"ve had it since.....whenever Theros came out, it's the one with Elspeth killing some big Hydra on it.

I do want to upgrade, though. My cube's at about $8000 in value right now (finally passed the halfway point in foiling!), seems like the least I could do to protect that investment is spend more than $20 on the case. Someone recently posted this in the main thread:

https://www.etsy.com/listing/287809611/mtg-painted-sturdy-deck-box?ref=listing-shop-header-0

This guy has a few different versions, many of which look like they'd easily fit a dozen commander decks and accessories AND a cube at the same time. Hell, I might ditch deckboxes altogether and get a huge one to hold all my poo poo in one spot.

I've also been talking to Wyrmwood to get a custom fancy cube vault made, but that's way more expensive (current plans have it at about 700).

We'll see what happens. I'm planning on making the upgrade this year's xmas gift to myself, so I have a few months to shop around.

Thanks for the info. I actually checked out Wyrmwood's stuff at Gencon this weekend and left with mixed impressions. I don't know if it was their display items or what but the pieces seemed to have consistency issues for the prices they wanted. I would make sure they have a great guarantee or return policy in place for defects or anything. Their cube boxes were nicely laid out, simple and effective but way bigger than I need.

It's probably just the display stuff, they're really good about their guarantees of quality. A friend has their new deckbox with the GPS tracker chip secret compartment thing that they launched through Kickstarter and he couldn't be happier with it. Their facility is actually like 15 minutes from my mom's house, I was just there last month.

Speaking of cube, GenCon, and tokens: Pontius Pilate has been dying for an Ophiomancer reprint so Wizards will finally print a 1/1 deathtouch snake token for our cube. Well, John Stanko was at GenCon, and for 20 bucks he custom pencilled a snake token for us on the back of an Ophiomancer artist proof. Fun fact: artists are explicitly forbidden from putting anything but the power and toughness on custom art jobs. So we had him pencil in "DT" since he couldn't write "Deathtouch."

I've had a lot of success with the KMC Card Box 1000, linked below on Amazon. They actually arrive from Japan, so shipping takes a few weeks, but I have bought three of them and I don't think they can be beat for value. I don't know what their double sided capacity is, but I have cubes of around 400 cards plus enough room for my dice bag/related tokens/whatever in them and they're just fine.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0007N7P8K/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Does anybody have "transformable" cubes? I'd like to create a few cube "additions"... basically, selections of cards that'll turn a Legacy cube into a powered cube, or add cards focused on multiplayer. I bought some small circular stickers in red, orange and yellow and slap them on the cards to signify where they belong and get idiot friends who wouldn't know power if it bit them in the dick to help take out the right cards.

My cube currently looks like this:
http://www.cubetutor.com/viewcube/63221

I've drafted it a couple of times with my play group, and the feedback I've gotten is that it's incredibly fun to draft and play, but on the face of it, it seems a little unbalanced in that Red looks to be more of a "support" colour, and there doesn't seem to be anything that sort of stands out as being a build-around, other than Sneak Attack.

Does anyone else have any feedback on the list, and what I could potentially change/add/remove?

There's quite a lot of tribal stuff going on, which seemed fun (I just did a quick draft, and went P1: Elvish Archdruid, P2-45: Elves and support). Your green seems to be very top-heavy, so I'd maybe cut a few cards from the 6-8 range and put in a couple of cheaper ones, and your multi-colour balance seems off (e.g. 7 Simic to 2 Rakdos (since I'd play a Murderous Redcap in either a red or black deck, where I think Wistful Selkie is probably only going into Simic)). Also personally, I really don't like Sorcery speed Threaten effects, and prefer instant speed ones (like Act of Aggression or Blind With Anger), as the extra flexibility makes up for the extra costs involved.

Finally, not suggesting you cut it, but I'd put Intangible Virtue on watch. It's such a huge card when it drops that it makes games against it really suck. The +1/+1 is OK, but giving the whole board Vigilance is a complete pain in the arse.

BFZ: 5 man-lands to complete the set of 10, Gideon, Greenwarden of Murasa, Catacomb SIfter....I think I added Hedron Archive, but it isn't on CubeTutor, need to dig through the physical cube to see if I did that or not (99% sure I remember getting a foil one for that purpose)

OGW: World Breaker, Eldrazi Displacer, Sylvan Advocate, Nissa Voice of Zendikar, Reflector Mage, Thought-Knot Seer, Kalitas Traitor of Ghet

SOI: Archangel Avacyn, Heir of Falkenrath, Relentless Dead, Anguished Unmaking, Westvale Abbey

EMN: Haven't gotten around to updating since SOI.
Conspiracy 2: Same, but I have a shiny Show and Tell and Mystical Tutor now
Kaladesh: Same, but I have a shopping list of Masterpieces to upgrade what's already there (I'll be hunting in the trading thread soon)

For the three latest sets, I'm considering:

* Hanweir Militia (possibly battlements) - Really liking it when I draft red on MTGO Legacy Cube right now. It helps both go-wide-red and big-red strategies, as well as RW and Naya that tend to go wide with little guys and anthems.

* Gisela, maybe Bruna - Brisela's really risky in cube, BUT it's cute with reanimator if you get something like Buried Alive to get both pieces at once

* Emerge creatures - Elder Deep-Fiend and Distended Mindbender for sure, considering Decimator of the Provinces so green gets a new, slightly different toy (can't be fetched with Natural Order or GSZ, but I like the idea of Emerging this out of a Thragtusk!)

* The Gitrog Monster - From SOI, but I think it has a place to boost Golgari

* Thalia's Lieutenant - Same, we get a fair few Humans vs. Goblins drafts.

* Nahiri's Wrath - This one's actually for graveyard decks, a more proactive discard outlet beyond the ones we have already that require a permanent on board. I dream of discarding original Emrakul to this for a cute board wipe.

* Nahiri herself - Oversight, and also I sold into her original massive spike (opened 3 in packs). She's definitely a necessary card now, and I've wanted to boost Boros anyway.

* Saheeli - Izzet finally gets some love! Definitely the most underrepresented color pair. Not sure where I'll cut for balance, but I may finally be breaking my nice symmetry across colors :negative:

* Recruiter of the Guard - Might replace Ranger of Eos, who isn't played very often (by the time you cast him, you don't want your 1-drops anymore, toughness 2 or less opens you up to way better tutor targets.....Mom, Mirran Crusader, Stoneforge Mystic, Anafenza, Flickerwisp, Karmic Guide, Thalia, etc.)

* New Thalia - Mostly for the "nonbasics enter tapped" effect, really shifts the dynamics of games and punishes 3+ color decks from white.

* Stunt Double - I already upgraded Clone to be Clever Impersonator. Not sure if this replaces him again or if it supplements it....I do love copying planeswalkers with Impersonator.

* Desertion - Already slotted this into my Memnarch EDH deck and love it. I know it's an old reprint, but I didn't know this existed so it's new to me!

* Daretti - I hate breaking symmetry, but Dragonlord Kolaghan just sucks. Easy swap.

* Wharf Infiltrator - Looter il-Kor #2, and that guy's already amazing.

* Cryptbreaker - Interesting discard outlet and addition to the Zombie tribe.

* Weaver of Lightning - I like the idea of Red getting something with reach, and an interesting ability. Great for the UWR control archetype.

* Eldritch Evolution - This is always an all-star for me when I draft it on MTGO right now.

* Grim Flayer - On the fence, mostly because Golgari's already pretty strong in terms of creatures, but maybe there's an argument for replacing Dreg Mangler with this guy to have a more interesting creature rather than just a body with haste.

* Spell Queller - Same thing, Azorius and UW control are already really strong, does it really need more help? But worthy of consideration.

* Insidious Will - This one's a stretch until I see how it plays myself, but I do like modal counterspells.

* Chandra, Torch of Defiance - Easy replacement for Firebrand at 4CMC currently.

* Rashmi, Eternities Crafter - Who doesn't dream of Cascading every time they cast something? Seems strong, and there are one or two Simic cards that can be cut for sure.

* Panharmonicon - Not entirely serious, but I do want to live the dream and drop a Thragtusk or Sundering Titan or Craterhoof Behemoth on top of this.

I'm probably taking the existing fastlands out of the cube, they're not great, so no new ones.
