I loving exploded on some idiots at the provost marshals office because they were trying to delay my final out by making me sign some bullshit with my CO, who was loving with me after my SSG punched me in the face when I told him he was a piece of poo poo for making a fake NCOER saying how I was a bad soldier and all this bullshit, basically talking poo poo and putting it on the 1SGs door, approved by the 1SG and CO. I was charged with "assault" for defending myself, and the paperwork I had to get signed by my CO was about whatever he was going to punish me with.....despite leaving in a week. This fuckhead MP SFC tried to talk to me about doing my duty and honor or some loving bullshit. I had a week to get out. I just said ROGER, walked the gently caress out, and the civvie handing out DD214s cut me some slack and just got me the gently caress out without dealing with anymore bullshit.

BTW all this happened on my terminal leave, I was staying in the area so yeah. I was clearing on terminal because I was constantly being hosed with and not allowed to loving clear when I should have been doing it before terminal. IG just threw their hands up in the air saying nothing they were doing was wrong. So gently caress them too.

gently caress the army, and I hope everyone in my old unit above me is loving dead.

I really am in some kind of magical unicorn unit... my NCOIC, warrant, CO, and 1SG all agreed to flex my schedule so I can have some 3-day weekends off to go back to my parents' to help out with whatever they need doing. Repairing fences, mowing the lawn, painting stuff, etc. When I tried to thank one of them for it, he said, "Don't thank me, it's just the right thing to do," but all I could think of is that I'm not used to anyone in the Army doing the right thing.

Typical Green Weenie bullshit:

Show up early to the brief for my DD214. Was told to come back when my DA31 had been signed (it had not because it was submitted yesterday and I have less than a week left, orders arrived on Tuesday).
Stop by transportation, told to come back when I have a time when I'm actually leaving since I didn't know exactly when I'd be moving.
Come back to the office, inquire about my ETS award, was told that my previous NCOIC had said to not give me one for whatever reason despite me writing it and sending it up. I'm thinking about IG for that one, my 1SG actually recommended it. Case in point the last two people to leave from our unit got one, and I have not.
Get my DA31 signed by command and all squared away
Go down to S1, and try to get a control number. After explaining that my final out day is July 3rd (technically last duty say so 30 June) this loving specialist tells me to calm down. I wasn't being loud, just insistent that I needed this to happen so I can get my goddamn clearing packet. I blew the gently caress up. I have only truly yelled at lower enlisted like 2 times. This made 3. I asked him who the gently caress he thought he was talking to, told him to go to parade rest and the dude kept blabbing 'I know exactly who I'm talking to.' No you don't dude, I ain't ever seen you before in my goddamn life. Then his NCOIC, SFC, comes out and takes me outside. He asks me what's going on I explain it to him. He naturally tells me not to yell at his soldiers, and I told him why. He said either or, come get him. I told him if I knew he was there I would have. Now I'm waiting for some loving guy I've never heard of to sign this mother fucker so I can bring it BACK to S1 and get a goddamn control number so I can get my loving clearing paperwork. gently caress

1 more loving week...

I'm going to have to clear in like 2 days including CIF because they apparently changed their policy to make it so that you have to have your orders/DD214 to be able to out process them.

I'm losing what little loving patience I have left. I'm behind in my school work because this, selling the house and everything is making it so I have 0 time to dedicate to it. Even if I did I'd be so goddamn stressed out that I couldn't concentrate.

I am glad I'm getting out now. To be treated like this is loving insane. Especially after 9 loving years.

Go ahead and laugh it up boys. I will too when this is all said and done. My last duty is to go to IG and see if I can't gently caress my old NCOIC over a bit because he hosed me so hard here. As long as it doesn't keep me in.

We've said it before, but once more. Don't go to IG unless you know the regulation or policy he/she/it is violating. IG doesn't care about hurt feelings. They care about enforcing law.

Also, log into your IPERMS and/or print/bring copies of your awards to the DD214 thing. The DD214 is the literal hand of god when it comes to proving you have something. When you get there they may not have all your awards on the form and unless you immediately pull out the paperwork you brought with you they'll hold it up while you go get proof, or you get a DD214 without all your stuff on it.

Yeah, like I said Top recommended it. It's against the NCO creed and possibly breaks a regulation by showing favoritism or "hazing" or whatever because he didn't like me. I'm entirely too lazy to look it up or care about it unless it falls in my lap. 1SG already said that if he needs to he can submit a new award and just ask me to come in off of terminal at some point to get it.

I can't get to my DD214 until I get my DA31 signed. Same with my clearing papers.

My 1SG in my medical holding company wouldn't clear me from the barracks because I got into a scuffle with the CQ NCO weeks prior about refusing to clean up the barracks laundry room. On a saturday, when I was zonked out on my loving medications and hadn't even lived in that barracks for longer than a day. So I just took the duty roster memo off the bulletin board and traced his signature on my clearing forms and off I went.

edit: oh and they lost my DA31 when I went to sign out on terminal. I told the staff duty NCO whatever, I'm leaving and I'll forfeit the pay. He screamed at me that I can't do that as I got into a cab for the airport. I still got paid, no issues on anybody's end.

Does your commander have an open door policy? You're getting out so just tell him you'd like to use it and tell him what's up.

You will find no one to help you here. Beth DuClare has been dissected and placed in cryonic storage.

I feel like I made out like a bandit when clearing. 60 days of terminal leave (thanks to hooking up squad leaders who were staying behind on block leave with cases of beer to make my leave form disappear) and a relatively painless clearing process at Benning.

Well, other than a guy from my platoon smearing a piece of cake all over my face. But I got back at him by putting some fish in his barracks room vents five days before he got back.

Whoa, whoa. Not true at all.

That's why I told him to do the commander's open door policy. The company commander might not be on a first name basis with the BDE commander but the Battalion commander probably is. They might not have a good relationship and there might not be any help to be had. But they could also be academy/drinking/fishing/etc buddies and it could be a phone call with a short explaination to get it rushed through.

You're getting out so it's not like you'd be hurting yourself here.

*edit* and there's also nothing wrong with having the thing mailed to your home of record later either (if it can't be rushed). I personally could care less about ceremony and stuff. My last several medals have been delivered to my desk by some E-4 who could care less.

He isn't here anymore or else I would. He went off to go train with industry for a year because he's highspeed or whatever. So it wouldn't change anything cause he's gone already, which is like I said, unless it falls in my lap with everything already done and all I have to do is say "he did this" I'm not gonna. That's what top said kinda. He said he could do an AAM in like a day, ARCOM would be harder. I told him just to think about what he wants to do, and that I totally understand if nothing comes of it. poo poo will suck. I mean I'm not even getting a hail and farewell lunch like everyone else does, or the little office plaque that people give to soldiers who are leaving. I'm just kinda being shown the door.

Things I've been blown the gently caress up for and had to fix immediately: not submitting an award even if late, even if the person was a med board with all but no time in.

Things I've been bitched at for, but it got through: turning in an award at the last minute.

E: got an ARCOM through on short notice for a med board junior NCO who also had some catastrophic report to the CG style mental/family poo poo go down while the award was up for consideration.

Just because your first line is being a prick doesn't mean everyone totally agrees with them.

If I were hiring in the civilian world and knew a former NCO or officer ETS'd with no award I'd tend to think they either did nothing but respirate or that they hosed up enough to be lucky not to be given a really bad chapter.

The most recent off the top of my head reasons I saw people leave without an award were officers sleeping with lower enlisted, DUI separations, going to jail, Chapter 14 cases, and people who by all rights should have received UCMJ or been facing investigation but were allowed to quietly exit with no award and a bad review.

Fair enough. I've seen it cut both ways. Saw one guy with an all but guaranteed cushy contractor job get told not to bother applying when he was about to ETS once the rep on post noticed he was getting no award and started snooping around as to why.

I also saw a contractor basically bust down a door and say "Hey, we heard your command is kicking you out on a chapter, please take this raise and do maintenance for us, oh and also you're going to work in your old unit's motor pool making more than all the NCOs and probably commander."

Then I got a call while I was on terminal from a random number and I was dumb and picked it up. The new training room NCO told me that my award was in and I needed to come in. I told him I was literally on the other side of the planet, so that'll be tricky. He proceeded to lose his loving mind as my terminal leave was for columbus, ga. So I hung up.

If you fall onto a shitload of cash at once (I think it might be like $100,000 minimum) you can be discharged if you do the paperwork for it explaining how it would be in your and the army's best interest for them to let you go, which I imagine would boil down to "I'm not gonna loving bother waking my happy rear end up to do your stupid PT when I could sleep on my pile of Sacajawea dollar coins."

Also this. I had a retirement award (MSM) get downgraded for one of my NCOs, and through dumbassery by the S1, they told him this before me and he was utterly loving done with it and ready to accept an ARCOM. I rewrote the whole award and attached a personal letter that said, in short "If this award isn't good enough, blame my writing ability, not this NCO" then had the BN XO and BDE DCO clean it up and get it back to the CG's staff the next morning. He left with an MSM and appreciated it, but really I realized it was very worth it when his wife came up and explained that he'd been ratfucked out of an MSM several times over his career after his first line leaders recommended him for them, but his higher leadership wasn't willing to fight for it.
