Ha, I was hesitant about the first one (and they choose poor leading ladies) but this series could end up being pretty fun. I just hope they eventually make Killing Floor, which I thought was the best of the books - but unfortunately, while the smarter of the series, it was also the least action heavy so it probably won't make the cut.

I think they shouldve got someone weirder looking than Isla fisher and Zach Galifianakis should be fatter. The joke lovingly embellished in the thumbnail seems weaker because Isla Fisher is still v skinny & pretty.

I mean...yeah, it's just. Isla Fisher is a particularly hot girl. She doesn't even wear glasses. She's just funny so we're supposed to buy her being some frumpy housewife. I say this having not seen the movie even though the dvd is sitting next to me.

Not to be weird or anything, but there are hot moms/housewives out there in the real world. Also, Gal Gadot completely towers over Isla Fisher and has more of an exotic beauty about her in comparison. Had they cast like, Melissa McCarthy as the wife, that just seems a bit ehh. [edit] vvv Heh

Who cares about adherence to reality? It's a movie where Gal Gadot & Jon Hamm are next-door spies who become friends with Zach Galifanaikis & Isla Fisher. But it's a comedy & when u cast Gal Gadot & Jon Hamm who are basically, as I said, walking caricatures of masculinity & femininity and then you put these "normal" people in a scene with them to draw a contrast it doesn't work when those "normal" people are still attractive stars.

The contrast of Zach and Isla as a quirky suburban family who aren't spies works well enough for this fictional scenario imo.

Not contesting anyone's waifu or preferences, she's as pretty lady as many come, but Fisher is odd looking and her aging is well on display, as well as motherhood. As a contrast to Gadot, and with the characters they seem to be building, Isla perfectly fits the bill if being a bit more of a normalized version than we may be used to.

Alternative answer: They're targeting a more international audience, and are thus choosing to not adhere as much to the appearance and weight of the average American so as to allow non-Americans to better identify with the characters.

Tom Cruise reminds me of a friend I have who is extremely intense and 100% committed to everything he does. He also has a bizarre belief system but I think that's just part of the brain chemistry that goes with the personality.

A Buttery Pastry posted:It's a commentary on how popular culture puts such high expectations on people that they undermine the body image of pretty much everyone, even people who in reality are significantly better looking than most of their peers. "a commentary on body image" or "The appearance and weight of the average American" is immaterial to my point which is that casting (skinny) Zach Galifanaikis and especially Isla Fisher kills the physical gag. It is significantly less funny than it could be because, for example in that changing room scene where you have Gal Gadot towering over her& then Isla Fisher makes a joke about how the most excitement she has is a terrible sex life (that her character doesn't realize is a joke[?]) none of it reads as funny as it could because Isla Fisher is still very good looking. This isn't something new or unexpected, I mean it's a big budget movie of course they're not going to actually cast someone normal looking, it's like every bad rom-com ever where you have the attractive "unattractive" girl/guy & then the conventionally attractive conceited girl/guy (who's all wrong for the protagonist, duhh). But it bugs me that they rely so centrally on the contrast as a joke since it doesn't really work but they're so close with Gal Gadot who is so totally insane looking.

I really liked the first one too, but McQuarrie has almost nothing to do with this one (He's just listed as a producer). He wrote and directed the last one. Cruise should make it worth watching though.
