it's too bad the Remainer response is a Sanders-supporter-esque "gently caress the poor" and not "maybe we should've spent more effort convincing people who weren't ourselves"

I think that's the crux of why the whole thing went Pete Tong. Cameron had no coherent argument beyond "it'll be a disaster, really really bad", Corbyn had a much better case but it didn't work well in sound bites, and the Leavers were given free reign to invoke the queues of ISIS and "are taxes being squandered in Romania" to angry and disaffected victims of the tory's cuts.

Not sure that Sander's supporters were ever campaigning on a gently caress-the-poor platform though.

The EU has hosed up a lot of stuff over the last 8 years, particularly w/r/t economics and the euro currency, and generally refuse to even admit the possibility that they could be wrong? And that there's an obvious problem with a non-democratic decision making class who hold a fair amount of power but little accountability.

Not that the UK has been on the sharp end of those decisions. The conservatives who rant about EU bureaucracy are all angry with health & safety regulations or the idea that cars should have a minimum gas mileage. But it probably helps sway some of the people in the middle who watched the Greece economic torture last year and though "gently caress this whole EU system".

Brussels has gotten a whole bunch of wake-up calls over the last several years that they needed to shape up and find ways to make both the haves and the have-nots happy, rather than be totally servile to the money. They've ignored all of them, maybe this time they won't just hit the snooze again.

Or maybe the EU needs to be completely taken apart or re-formulated into something that won't completely destroy it's own member nations in the service of big banks.

They should have a second referendum and just add "gently caress David Cameron" as a third option so all the people who disagree with him on principle can have their say.

The most interesting aspect of all of this is the fact that any laws currently on the books in britain will have to be rewritten, and that there is technically no rule of law until that point.
