I'm struggling to see what functional purpose that first gear would have without the final drive being crazy low.

That transmission really is something. Honda's implementation of it is turning into a debacle similar to when the Cherokee first launched. Both Honda and Acura dropped below all 4 Chrysler marques on the latest JD Powers IQS.

So with the Brit economy about to be in tatters we should all start importing British 80's hot hatches right?

I've done an in-depth investigation into the possibility of that and it turns out they all rusted away five years after they were made.

So I got a PM from MrChips today saying that I won as an answer to the sheep game question relating to a favorite project. That's pretty awesome that so many people like my crazy Bosozoku truck, and crazy timing as I just saw since was I actually tinkering on the truck and such all day for the first time in forever. It left the confines of the storage facility for the fist time in 3ish years and even made an appearance at a local car meet. I will be posting a new thread soon since is at the house as of 30min ago. I should also have more time to keep up a thread I'm settled into the new job and taking more time off after I just payed off a bunch of student loans over the last year. Thank you AI Holdbrooks

Sorry but this is how it actually is British built cars that are total turds MG Metro Turbo MG Maestro Turbo Non turdy non UK 80s hatches at the time that time has turned into turds Peugeot 205 GTI Peugeot 309 GTI VW Golf GTI MK1 Non UK Rancid overhyped unreliable in new and spectaclar ways loving turd from day one Lancia Delta HF Turbo LOL if you think you will get one of these Renalt 5 Turbo Complete and utter turd Ford Escort XR3 Turd and completely overshadowed by superior Group A versions Ford Escort RS Turbo So it still stands, name a British hatchback that isnt a turd from the 80's. And lets be quite blunt here, the UK gets snow and salts the roads. You really think a 25 year old UK car isnt going to be falling to pieces? You aint getting anything worthwhile for cheap.

But that's the entire point of an 80s hot hatchback. Putting twice as much power as the base model in something that isn't actually that good anyway.

Any actual hot hatch model is going to command a ridiculous premium and you're likely going to need to tear out the suspension and refresh the engine anyways, so you're better off just sourcing the hot engine that somebody blew up to rebuild and then investing a little bit more in good suspension. It's going to be frustrating and costly to find an source even simple crap for something brought over from the UK for us in North America much less an engine.

Want to recreate the fun of an original 80's hot hatch? Buy a 90's/00's cheap hatch back, stuff in a larger engine from the next size up car, install a crappy exhaust and knockoff KnN filter, crash because it's a terrible car and you're a 19 year old gimp with shandy for blood and 5 mates in the back seat. Fun fact, the GTI version of the Citroen AX had thinner panels and glass than the standard ax. Almost literal tinfoil.
