Hearts of stone question: On the way to the herbalists hut near oxenfurt I triggered a cut scene with a big boar who was injured and geralt said something about tracking it because it seemed like a hunt gone wrong but I couldn't find anything. Is it linked to the people banging on the herbalists door?

Runewright question Just got the runewright quest and I'm only level 14, but it seems like it doesn't have any combat in it. If I do it will I even be able to use the runewords at my level?

EDIT: It costs 30k to get this guy to max level and then 2k each runeword?! Do the expansions give you a ton of gold or something? I don't see how I'd get that much money without grinding or an exploit.

Loot every corpse you create, sell their weapons and armour to the armourer in Heirarch Sq in Novigrad, hey presto. That'll keep you at 50,000+ all game long even if you craft every Witcher set and upgrade them.

Speaking of selling stuff, who should I be selling miscellaneous valuables (jewelry, etc) to? I usually just sold them to random merchants until I ran out of shiny things or they ran out of gold but I'm sure there's a vendor or type of vendor out there that gives the best prices for them.

Okay, really dumb question; in Velen, if you open the world map and look in the lower-left hand corner, you have the Byways fast travel point, then north about 300m and a little to the east there are three question marks in a very tight triangle. One of them is a noonwraith guarding a hidden treasure, but it looks like the other two are underground somewhere; how the heck do I reach them, is there a cave I'm not seeing nearby?

It's probably the place of power and guarded treasure at the very end of the dungeon - on the same branch-off where you went to get the magic lamp. You must have turned back instead of following the passages to the end during that bit.

Just started a playthrough. The game told me it's going to simulate a save game of TW2, even though I'm pretty sure I have one on this computer. How do I find it, and how do I make the game find it?

The mouse cursor feels really float / laggy in menus. A way to fix this?

In game impression news, I read the novels and played the previous games, so obviously the game’s attempt to summarize things for newcomers feels a bit unnecessary, but seriously – it takes the form of a preacher sermonizing fire and brimstone at a peasant crowd, and is really bad as a sermon, and not that good as a lore dump.

Edit - Haha, is Geralt's medallion supposed to vibrate when Yennifer goes "You've known many [women]"?

Is there a way to change VA's on the fly, without changing your steam language? I see text options under "Language", but not voice options.

Impressions:

First active use of the jump key – leapt over the balcony of my castle room, to my death.

Ok, but seriously – dropping the tiniest distance kills me on the spot. Shades of Call of Juarez Gunslinger.

The game comes with artbook and map pdfs in different languages. Several GB of totally extraneous space-wasting nonsense. Wonder what else I can / should delete.

The tutorial messages actually stop the game until you click them away. Annoying.

Decided to fight a Nilfgaardian soldier, and got two-shotted. I’m fine with elite/skull enemies being extremely dangerous, but them being hitpoint sponges is less ok. I slashed that fucker a dozen times, and barely took off a quarter of his healthbar.

Interesting how the games reminds you of what you were doing when you reload. Really should be kept to one reload per hour though.

You shouldn't ever be fighting 'skull' enemies, that means they're so far above your level that you need to get away. This also applies to guards, you're not really meant to be going on a crime spree.

Wait, you want the game to remind you what to do only once per hour.. or you only want to be able to reload once per hour? Also the tutorials are generally pretty wordy so having them stop the game was probably the only way they could ensure players with short attention spans would actually read them and not be like "the game never toooold me!" hours later when they can't figure something out.

Yes. I'd rather it didn't, but I can see the point - not constantly though.

I think some of the promotional materials touted something like an organic world - you clear the monsters in a location, and people will be naturally attracted to it. What that actually means is apparently a cutscen, and a bunch of NPCs spawning in.

Really? I genuinely thought that meant "this is an enemy you can only kill right now if you're exceptionally good and careful".

Edit - can you get different enemies to fight each other? Wolves and deserters, or random Nilf soldiers and random monsters?

There is a lot of other stuff that feels pretty organic with the world-building, the abandoned locations you can clear out are one example.

You can fight skull monsters, they're just huge sacks of HP so it will take longer. You're really not supposed to fight guards though.

Keep in mind that the first ~5 hours of game in White Orchard is the tutorial zone. I think it's a well-done area, but it's fairly simple and there's not a lot of "depth" to it. Once you move on to Velen is when you'll get fully immersed in Peasant Misery Simulator.

By the way, when you end White Orchard you'll have a conversation with a steward that allows you to simulate your Witcher 2 save. Mostly you tell him who lived and who died, the only character with significant content is Letho so definitely keep him alive. For better or worse there's not a lot of carryover from your actions in previous games to Witcher 3.

You do have to fight some high-level monsters during the runewright quest. They're spiders.

You get a lot more money as you level up. Weapons dropped by enemies are higher level so they sell for more.

This is technically true, but in the case of some enemies that can heal, it can be impossible to beat some enemies if you can't put out enough damage pressure against the monster and you should just run. I found a random monster before in a tomb that regenerated sometimes that turned out to be a skull monster that could catch up to me, and I couldn't escape it due to being in combat and unable to leave the spot. So I ran around casting Yrden and getting in some sword strikes when I could for nearly half an hour and I could take exactly one hit from it. Those skull monster fights can be really rewarding intrinsically and a test of one's skills but there's little reason to do it unless you want to feel like you're a badass with tons of patience. It's like the playthrough I'm trying to do where I only use blackjacks and fists against bosses on Death March with no mutagens or witcher advantages otherwise.

Xander77 posted:

You may see them fight each other first and get in some pot shots similar to how wolves will hunt down small animals but every time I've tried to get AI vs AI fights the AI seems to prioritize me if I hit an enemy over NPCs.

I want to love it, but it seems like a really good relic sword or witcher sword will outclass it because of all the bonuses (sign intensity, crit chance and/or damage, etc) that Aerondight doesn't get. The base damage does stay competitive if you keep up your hit streaks, though.
