Lore of Vampires is better than Lore of Death with Molay's imo, and Kemmler's beefed up artifacts own. His healing aura is cool too. Mannfred is still probably better since he's a beast in melee and has mounts, but Heinrich is no slouch.

It's easy to get Rank 9 everything. Just have 3 captains/thanes/wights/etc with Examplar standing in the region when you fill the recruit queue. (Then can then gently caress off to another province and the stuff you queued will stay at rank 9)

Verranicus posted:That doesn't sound easy at all. It's not difficult, at least not for the Dwarves. Additional thanes come from the Hall of Oaths, which is a tier 4 building that provides you Ironbreakers, so odds are you're going to have at least 1 somewhere. All of the provinces around the Badlands are at least 3 settlements deep, with several being 4, so having the growth to get to tier 4 is not difficult. You also only need the hall of oaths to increase the limit temporarily, you can remove it after the Thane is recruited if you're so inclined to free up that slot. To get exemplar fully levelled requires the Thane to be level 9... and the Hall of Oaths means your Thanes spawn at level 5. Getting 4 more levels is pretty trivial, especially with a Thane who has several decent offensive actions and whose deployable action is mass corruption clearing, which means any of the VC lands directly north of you are experience farmable without even going to war. You can easily have the provinces and Thanes ready by the time you get to around turn 60-80 as the dwarfs, depending on how clean the game has been thus far. I know in my campaign I retooled all of my armies before heading north with gyros and Ironbreakers, and I had 4 thanes ready to go for that. The Silver Road and Blood River Valley are both excellent recruitment provinces on that note, as you can queue up full stacks in both zones and cut your full construction time down in half, just by sliding the Thanes over to the relevant local region as you queue up units in those armies. The Thanes do not have to be attached to the armies to boost recruiting experience, they must simply be in the relevant local region. Mazz fucked around with this message at 05:32 on Jun 27, 2016 |

Thank you Mazz for the tier 4 settlements mod as it made it a lot easier to have a single dwarf province capable of making every unit, particularly by having a settlement have the hall of oaths instead of wasting a valuable slot in the capital. Granted Dwarves have such slow growth it takes a while to benefit but it is definitely worth it; tool makers guild and or a second level 4 brewery in a settlement are nice. I wish enemies bothered to try to attack one though. Tier 4 settlements get updated garrisons and combined with tier 2 gate house with walls could put up quite a fight on its own.

Just finished my first campaign. Long victory with VC. Favorite army was Manny's. 2 vamps, wk, necro, 5 varghwulfs, 4 terrorgheists, and crypt horrors to fill out the stack. Would just steamroll through attrition and auto resolve battles then heal by getting in manual fights. Never had to replace a single unit. Really fun.

Soooo another another mod made, thanks to Mazz for helping me figure this one out: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=711742675 As has been discussed in here, Global Recruitment feels a bit like a letdown in a normal game, the steep cost in turns makes you rarely want to use it and it in turn can inhibit you from playing more aggressively. No more! With this mod, your global recruitment turn costs will be the same as local recruitment, the steeper cost in currency and no bonus from provincial buildings remain as before to promote local recruitment as superiour when in or close to your home provinces. Can someone compile a list of the "not worth it" units for all factions? I'm pretty bad at determining what's good or not just by looking at the stats and traits.

Double Bill posted:Can someone compile a list of the "not worth it" units for all factions? I'm pretty bad at determining what's good or not just by looking at the stats and traits. You'll probably get a bunch of hot opinions soonish, but I'd say that while certain units are more optimal than others from an efficiency point of view, unless you are playing on very hard difficulties almost all of the units are pretty viable and can be used, and you might have more fun using different units than forming entire identical armies of uniformly 'the best' units. I mean the question of 'worth it' depends on what 'it' is to you, and if you aren't playing at a high difficulty level you shouldn't really be running into massive cash difficulties anyway and you should eventually unlock all units. EDIT: Rules of thumb for me: Hellblasters and Lumiarchs are underpowered Ghosty type VC units (Black coach, cairn and hex wraiths) are less good than their beast type counterparts Goblins weaker than orcs if you don't play around with their stealth skills Two-turn chaos units probably don't justify their time expense High tier dwarven units aren't a big improvement over more basic units, except for infantry Fangz fucked around with this message at 12:11 on Jun 27, 2016 |

If you aren't making fluff accurate armies that conform to the table top core/special/rare unit count rules then you're doing it wrong.

Its just a multiplier, one that i changed from 2x to 1x, though i wonder if you can set it to something like 1.5.. Im actually gonna have to try that, see what happens. Alternatively if i can find out how to raise the currency price that'd be a decent blocker for overabuse.

I like the concept, because late game you will be dealing with a lot of big nasties. But having zero armor means they get picked off too easily. Many games don't even bother building a slayer shrine. Similarly I find Hammerers to be subpar because they lack shields. I tend to focus on ranged units using warriors/Longbeards/Ironbreakers as love troops.

Having a shitton of Warriors and Quarrelers with a few cannons/grudgethrowers is both fluff-accurate and effective, (Replace with Thunderers if there are a lot of black orcs / chaos warriors etc). That's one thing to remember with Dwarfs actually... your low-tier troops get lots of buffs from techs and lord-skills and should not be underestimated. In a new vh dwarf campaign I killed grimgors army (with a full stack) 3 times in 3 separate close and hard fought battles. He then respawned with a full stack and a waagh from their last two remaining regions ( I'd taken black crag, their last regions were like west of barak varr on the coast) and sacked karaz a karak while I was up north getting gunbad. Then confederated with the bloody spearz, who'd wiped out the northern dwarfs, and were back up to like 10 regions. loving very hard / impossible strategic layer is some bullshit sometimes
