That last panel is trying way too hard. "Here I am looking at poo poo under a microscope. That way you know I'm a scientist, since that's what all scientists do, just spending every moment of their free time looking at slides under a microscope. Not to mention my DNA model I bought at ThinkGeek. But you know I'm a badass too, since I have both a knife and a grenade placed randomly on my desk, and a giant painting of a gun for some reason. "

I can't speak for the quality of the writing, but Marvel's had female superheroes for the whole time it's been Marvel. Invisible Woman and Jean Gray have been around since '63, Polaris since '68. Storm, Spider-Woman and Ms. Marvel all showed up in the late 70s.

While the quality of writing has its ups and downs, Marvel has generally been pretty decent about representation in their comics and pushing various limits, even including some decently written queer subtext stuff well before any characters were actually out as gay. There have always been women in marvel comics, and again while different writers had various ups and downs they were often in leadership roles and are frequently very powerful characters both literally and in terms of driving the narratives. I mean I hate to agree with an internet crazy but when the first page was posted I thought it was a cute comic and then it ends with saying she couldn't be a super hero because she was a woman, ignoring the massive history marvel has with their characters.

Which would explain this I guess: quote:I’m done with marvel. Social justice has absolutely destroyed comics. This is just bad writing. It’s propaganda, and it’s not even good propaganda.

Public page so I'm not censoring. IAVA, Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America marched in NYC Pride and some of its members, or at least people who follow the page, were less than thrilled. At least a lot of the replies to those comments are people making fun of them. The impotent tears are pretty great.

After some thinking, I think I can produce a good candidate for the exact point when they were ruined. No jokes here, I'm afraid, just nerdery: the head of EC Comics utterly failing to defend this cover in a hearing was a big contributing factor to the creation of the Comics Code.

History Honeys is great but that is not exactly accurate going by what they said in the episode. Gains hadn't slept and had to testify in front of senators he'd spent a year calling communists against a guy who had spent years refining his anti-comics speech.
