On the lighter end of things I've been really enjoying the new After Osmosis album, which succeeds in still having some grit and bite without all the gloom.

I really like Galilean Satellites and A Determinism of Morality. The rest is decent. There are better atmosludge bands but they're a good one.

Wake/Lift. :colbert:

I like Rosetta a lot but everything after A Determinism of Morality has been super hit or miss for me. 3 albums since then and really like 1 or 2 standout tracks on each.

"To be quite frank, Platinum sucks at making games. Vanquish was terrible and Metal Gear Rising: Revengance was so boring it put me to sleep."

Listened to Jakob on the thread recommendations and I like them.

I liked Solace and Cale:Drew generally. Subsets of Sets I thought was a bit scattershot but I liked it overall without thinking there was a stand out track. Sines I found disappointing. Perhaps not enough variety, perhaps not heavy enough. That said, I loved "Blind them With Science" and "Sines". "Sines" (39:21 here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lNsNMpU0I3M) reminded me a lot of Boards of Canada, esp. "Math is Music" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n0P1JsMTWc0 (without the beat, but the long chords and timbre seem similar).

I would say if you like Russian Circles then definitely listen to "Blind Them With Science" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t4ovUVNs4VY and check out Cale:Drew then Solace.

A local band just put out an album that's really good. I recommend checking them out. The third song has some sick slide guitar stuff going on.

I'm seeing Sigur Ros as part of a festival in Poland soon, excited for that. Haven't listened to them in a long time Unfortunately no EITS since they went to Fuji Rock instead, even though Sigur Ros and RHCP and some other acts are going from London to Tokyo back to Poland

To be honest the lineup is basically "What are the acts going to glastonbury we recognized" but I like Poland

I picked it up at their gig in London and I absolutely loving adore it. It's more violent than the first album, going more in a Grace Kelly direction. It's so, so strong.

The new Jambinai is indeed excellent. I dug Grace Kelly / Time of Extinction and that stuff so a whole album of it is just great.

Yeah, and you can hear the beginning of Afrika at the end of it.

The new Jambinai was amazing too. The last 3 tracks blow so many bands/genres out of the water.
This is sort of unlikely, but can anybody recommend other bands with these Korean instruments (geomungo etc)? Or like...'post rock / world music' type things?

Well this rules! But the more I hear about how the game plays, the less interested I am in playing it. So I'll probably just get the soundtrack on its own.

Mono remind me of Cul de Sac, which no one ever mentions here. No Cul de Sac fans here? :( Actually, I have mixed reactions to them. I found a lot of the stuff hard going except Crashes to Light, which is lovely.

So, I've just gotten hold of (legitimately) the 65dos soundtrack for No Man's Sky soundtrack and I'm calling it here, without a hint of hyperbole or doubt at least for my taste: this is the greatest score in video game history. It's also some of the best work 65 have ever done.

I wonder if the high quality soundtrack will make up for the lack of game.

Different genre, but Austin Wintory's score of Journey and now Abzu are nearly peerless for me. Everything I've heard of 65dos stuff for NMS is very good so far though.

This album feels just like Russian Circles. Almost like a summary of all of their albums so far wrapped up in one album. Very enjoyable but they really aren't taking any risks.
