Honestly, the 'average' player isn't so much a problem for me, because gently caress, I used to be there. I remember being that terrible pubby (I had a 43% win rate at one time myself). I can't hate on somebody with at least yellow stats because that shows they've actually attempted to become not bad. Maybe that's their peak of ability, but at least they're trying.

But if I find somebody with 10k+ games played and a 300 WN8? gently caress that guy.

I was honestly quite frightened by it.

The AW PvP was laughably unplayable due to the playerbase. So many times people just wouldn't move, like the shitheads who just camp the west corners of Prokhorovka in WoT, but the AW maps do not allow you to do that. At least the shithead "snipers" on Prok eventually get to shoot tanks once their team is all dead and they're surrounded, but the AW maps do not allow you to snipe, so you'd have seven of your dipshit teammates cowering in a corner of the map, waiting for enemies to try to push into them, while you lose the rest of your team to the ten enemies on the other side of the map and there's literally nothing you can do.

Then again you could just be in a top tier MBT on the other side and your team wins a 10v5 of whatever because the enemy cannot damage your tank.

  • Maps made by graduates of the DOTA academy. gently caress 3 lanes for lyfe. Also gently caress "Winter Himmelsdorf on Fire" map copies.
  • Shot dispersion. It's loving infuriating when a fully aimed round shoots off into the stratosphere/dirt. It can't be that hard to make the variance of the normal distribution tighten with aim time instead of the radius.
That's all I can think of off the top of my head, but there's probably more.

I'd also add:
-Why is 6th sense still not on by default? They've been talking about this for years. It is way too important to be something you have to play a lot of games for.
-Also, a ton of crew skills are goddamn worthless and serve no purpose unless you somehow have filled out the 3ish essential skills per crew member.
-New premium tanks are no longer interesting or fun, and now don't even get the benefit of seeing better matchmaking.
-Merge the US servers. Move to a central datacenter and slap US West and East together again, the US could use the playerbase boost.

I was looking for some photos last night and came across screenshots from the launch of the game, I forgot how nightmarish the the old matchmaking used to be. It was +3/-3 and goddamn that was savage. Being top tier in a Tiger 2 or IS-3 was just unfair, especially if you played smart. My top game in a Tiger 2 had 9 kills, and most of that was cleaning up their team full of tier 5's and tier 6's, none of which could even damage me.

Is that the turret with 200 mm on the back? It's a counterweight that serves as a ridiculous amount of armor. It's the TOG's turret, so that should tell you what kind of amazing performance to expect from this particular vehicle.

It basically plays like the tier 6 Achilles; shoot & scoot. Or like a bad Hellcat.

Yeah, it's very much made for nibbling at opponents. Don't get close, don't be the centre of attention and the damage adds up quickly. As far as I can tell so far, it'll be underwhelming on many of the maps and when you need to carry, though. Shame.

I think the main thing that bothers me is that despite all the buffs it got in the latest patch, they didn't bother to buff its penetration. 175mm is low for a tier VII TD and if you combine it with low alpha damage...

Which Stug? :v:

Assuming you mean the III, compared to the PanzerJager it's guns hit a little less than twice as hard but reload a little more than half as fast if you go for one of the 7.5cm options, but that's still drat quick all in all. If you want something with punch at that tier though you'll take the 10.5cm, which much slower but can do a lot of damage if you get something lightly armored (most things at tier 4 are lightly armored).

German TDs are farily mobile until you get into the Tiger-derived units, and the Stug isn't really an exception either, so that'll be about the same.

The way to go is through the Hetzer in my opinion, which has two fantastic gun choices: a derp gun (can fire high damage HE which has low penetration but can do decent damage against modules/crew, at the expense of reload speed and accuracy) and a faster-firing gun with higher penetration AP rounds. It's blind as a bat, but can hide behind a bush and has armor that can be tricky for tier 4 tanks. The Stug III G comes after with a ridiculously fast-firing, high penetration gun.

Both tanks are sort of made to sit far back, have others spot enemies, and then snipe away (if you're using the faster firing guns). The derp gun is more of an ambush thing since the shells travel slowly and aren't accurate. Pop out around a corner and blast someone lightly armored in the face (the lighter the armor, the more damage you do or even possibly penetrate). But try to always have support from other tanks so you don't get flanked.

As always, youtube can be your friend about tactics and guides/reviews of tanks, but take Quickybaby's with a grain of salt since he is a total fanboy that loves every tank, even bad ones.

German TDs at high tiers (8-10) fall into two camps: the stug goes to superheavy armored tanks that don't have a turret, better for corridors you can cover and not be flanked easily on. The other TD line goes to really lightly armored tanks with good camoflage and turrets.

Honestly, though you'll find yourself driving other tanks too in time. Soviet mediums and the IS heavy line are pretty forgivable and straight-forward for new players. French anything is advanced play and very unforgiving to new players. For that matter the Czech line is unforgivable too, so avoid that early as well.

Good luck, and remember that by asking questions you're better than more than half of the players in this game!

My advice is to play as many of the low tiers as you can stand to. Low-tier tanks don't play like higher tiers, but because you're new to the game you want to get used to the maps and the general mechanics. At least grind out all of the tier 1s and elite them so that you can sell them to make room for other tanks, unlock all of the tier 2s, and then never have to re-buy a tier 1 (to start another line later on.) Don't worry about going from tier 1 to 10 right now (my recent post regarding that was for veteran players starting a new account), just play for the experience.

Also, platoon with goons, hang out in the in-game channel and on Discord.

Depends on how you want to play it. If you use the III, you can go with the long 75mm, which fits the standard TD gameplay of hiding in a bush and shooting at people who don't see you. Or you can rock the 105mm, which instead relies on HE/HEAT for damage. HE will almost always do damage, but is decreased by armor thickness. However, it is good at damaging modules and killing crew. But if it pens on lightly armored tanks, it will knock off most their health. However, it isn't as accurate and fires slower, so you have to play as an assault gun.

Or if you go up the other tree, at tier 5 you get the Toaster, which is a ugly ungainly tank that can mount either a short 88mm with great traverse, or the long 88mm with limited traverse. As long as no one sees you, this tank will murder the gently caress out of everything it sees. I wouldn't recommend the 2nd German TD line for newer players though, its a lot more specialized then the other one. Also it has the Sturer Emil which can be painful.

Biggest disadvantages from a stats perspective is its slower, has less view range, and less camo. But for a damage dealer think of bringing at least one.

And yeah, the Hetzer is good, and honestly the derp gun seems a lot better. You can obliterate a lot of tanks in 1-2 shots, and the heavies will still take some damage and lose mods to random bullshit, and its not like you're too slow to run away from them.
