Huh, so on the new Bizarre Foods Andrew Zimmern is in Senegal and he was having some French/Vietnamese/Senagalese/Some other French Colonial Possession fusion dish and was like "Ya know, we used to be a colony of England and they gave us..." And the Senegalese lady he was chatting with said "Uuuuhhhhh, hamburger? No, that's german." Then Zimmern said "OH THAT'S RIGHT, THEY GAVE US NOTHING." She's just in it for finding funny poo poo in our family, but so far the only thing she's found of note was some ancestors who hosed off from the Thirteen Colonies to Canada sucked up to the psycho from Turn to beg for sweet, sweet Canadian land.

Like, by all accounts of the family I can trace two things back to the 1800s. 1. A slave holding family in Texas 2. Marriage into the cherokee nation some time after But I've done a fair amount of digging and i've found neither that plantation nor that grandma. On the other hand, her family name is unusual and yet it's in several places in Dallas, one of which used to be an area where a plantation was. vOv given, my digging has NOT been thorough, but whatever, ancestry.com records didn't prove either to be true.
