Have a read of that tactical senate voting page linked on the previous page here. With the changes to senate voting this election, it's important that if you don't want a party to have a chance of your vote going towards them that you DON'T number them. A blank square is more effective than the lowest number on the ballot

Surely that effect is diminished by the increase in value of a vote still in the system due to the decrease in quota?

Yes and no - the decreased quotas come into play, but if for whatever reason there are x candidates left over without a quota between them, and x seats, then those candidates all get a seat. If you leave candidates you don't want off your ballot your vote will never have a chance of being distributed to the pool for those remaining candidates, meaning they have a (statistically irrelevant) lower chance of surviving elimination to be Last Senator Standing

Rob Oakeshott could be on the verge of a dramatic return to Parliament.

Coalition strategists appear to have hit the panic button in the NSW seat of Cowper, mobilising Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull in an attempt to protect former National Party minister Luke Hartsuyker against the late challenge by the independent.

In an unusual move for a Prime Minister in the last week of an election campaign, Mr Turnbull cold-called a small ABC radio station on Tuesday morning to go into bat for Mr Hartsuyker who is in danger of losing his seat despite a handsome 13 per cent margin to the Nationals in that seat.

ABC Radio's mid-north coast presenter Michael Spooner was stunned when a media adviser for Mr Turnbull called at 7.46am offering him a rare one-on-one with the PM.

quote:

A ReachTel poll conducted a fortnight ago indicated that Mr Hartsuyker's primary vote had tumbled from 53 per cent at the last election to 39 per cent up once Mr Oakeshott entered the race.

One in every 10 apartments in Australia sold for less than what the owner paid for it over the March quarter, new research shows.

All capital cities across Australia, apart from Sydney, saw more than 10 per cent of apartment owners sell at a loss in the first three months of the year, according to the latest CoreLogic Pain and Gain report for the March quarter.

In total, 11.7 per cent of Melbourne apartments and 14.1 per cent of Brisbane apartments sold for a loss, while in Darwin more than a quarter of apartment sellers took a hit.

Because both of those are totally equivalent especially where Windsor was a child and NTATA only acted like one but was technically a responsible adult.

A turbulent cross bench and a Tory government is the worst of all worlds. It means faecal smears like Lionhat can attach horrendous conditions to legislation in order to allow it to pass. Remember Brian Harradine? There's a grave to dance on:

You can't pass something that doesn't want to be passed. The DD is supposed to assist a popular minority government to clear out the senate and vote in more favourable senators, which is a pipe dream for this election. Even if there were obligated to try and pass it, they will end up where they are today. Blocked in senate with another trigger for a DD. And if they were to try that again, then it will likely not go well for them.

They basically want a Silicon Valley libertarian city state. What's more amusing is that we already have a university town, without traffic congestion that is located between Sydney and Melbourne. It's called Canberra.

All of the poo poo with zero/low taxes, relaxed immigration (to exploit), investment schemes, the two underground levels of perpendicular tunnels where people quickly transit across town, etc. is even more fanciful than bullet train for australia and coke in the bubblers combined. At least the bullet train could be our replacement High Speed Rail if the government was wanted to blow a bunch of cash. And I bet Coca-Cola would be willing to cut a very special deal to get kids hooked on Coke.

And that's just the ones that are selling. I've been keeping an eye on the market nearby - there are a lot of "O.N.O.", "buyer wants to sell!" on private sales, and auction results are showing a lot of passed-in at seemingly reasonable (for the inflated market ideals) vendor bids.

Yeah it was discussed at length last election, and somehow morphed into a plan to build a city out of rubbish in the Western Australian desert where boat people could be made to work for their citizenship. Or maybe I'm confusing it with another plan that came out of this thread.
