I think an office was what the Vessel deal was for, and I think trying to get one was responsible for that one podcast where Matt couldn't make it because of IRL crime times. Don't think they've said anything on it since. A dedicated producer/tech guy would take a lot of stress out of their lives, but then we would actually get a halfway professional production, and that's not what SBFP was built on.

Dedicated editors would be nice but I think right now getting an office is their goal, so we'll have to wait until they give up on that before seeing them talk about maybe getting ready to hire video editors.

I was tempted to go with that (since he was arguably talking to himself) but I went with the Neil Diamond song that allegedly inspired his uh..."performance art" if you will.

Audacity is fine. It also doesn't require a friend passcode to share your project files with someone else.

The LP is a capture card issue as far as I'm aware, not a software one. The podcast, well, did this happen before? I never found Audacity to be especially unstable (in the same vein, Audition fuckin' crashed on me all the time when I worked exclusively with it back in college), so they could try new software, but it's not just a "lol jank freeware crap" issue.

They had to rerecord podcasts multiple times, also have bad habits of never doing mic checks which led to water episodes.

Tae posted:They had to rerecord podcasts multiple times, also have bad habits of never doing mic checks which led to water episodes. This sounds like a PC/mixer issue, or a "I forgot to press record" issue, hehe. Like, I say this because we incentivized people to use open-source poo poo in college, so every single little audio project we tried to record on Audacity, I kinda grew to respect it because although it's ugly as sin it never let me down ever. Really, when it comes to audio recordings, most fuckups are on the hardware/user side, not software.

Dias posted:Hehe, I just had this argument countless times with friends wanting to buy/"acquire" Audition/fuckin' Pro Tools to do a 2-track, 30min of spoken audio edit job. Yeah those people are morons. Audacity is great for projects like that. I've used it to edit and master tracks for my band, it's great for podcast work, etc. It does have its limitations though, because FOSS. And yeah, it looks like arse because FOSS. Guess what, it doesn't matter, it's functional as gently caress. The sad fact of the matter is that some people are just attracted to the shiny expensive thing because it must be better, right? Hence My original point was that considering that they've had multiple issues using it (even if it is down to them being cack-handed/lazy/idiots/something in their HW set up/whatever) should indicate that maybe it's time for them to try something else? Not saying they need to run to Adobe (gently caress those cunts right in their cock-eye) or whatever.

Hence Oh, yeah, maybe they could give something else a whirl, but I dont think it's a software issue because it usually isn't - in fact, whenever this happens it's either user error, a system freeze/too many resources being used or USB bandwidth fuckups. If they have easy access to another software it's not a bad idea. From Woolie's Twitter it sounds like it's either 2 or 3, if it wasn't clear it's probably 3.
