Also the sample size sucks, so statistics gets really inaccurate.

Reminder that KYnect, the Obamacare Medicaid expansion in KY, was more or less the gold standard for the system. Turnout was so poor in the KY Gubernatorial election though that something like 18% of the state were able to vote to have it removed, including a bunch of people who relied on it to literally not die. Now they're literally going to have to indenture themselves to the state just for discounts on what was free before. The rest are looking at $700 a month for insulin instead of $3, or death from diabetes which is Not Fun

MC Nietzche posted:Nope sorry going to need a non-twitter source for this because its honestly so horrifying that I can't believe Matt Bevin hasn't been struck by lightning yet. That's oversimplifying a bit, but it's a reasonable interpretation. Basically, state medicaid will no longer cover vision / dental, and to receive medical you will now have to pay a monthly premium. To qualify for vision or dental you will be required to enroll in a "fiscal responsibility class" or put in volunteer work at Southeast Christian Church. Oh and speaking of Southeast Christian Church, did you know Matt Bevin decided to unilaterally dissolve the board of trustees at UofL? And he's replaced the entire board with a bunch of friends of his who just happen to attend, that's right, Bevin's own Southeast Christian Church. Included among the people overseeing the academic progress of the state's #2 university will be, this gem: https://twitter.com/DFCobb/status/704490732111994881 SACS, the org that oversees accreditation for a lot of Southern schools, is apparently looking over whether allowing a governor to completely dismantle and rebuild a University's board coincides with their requirement of academic freedom. Some members are not too pleased and this could possibly lead to UofL losing their accreditation, which would basically destroy the city of Louisville. Oh man, this guy's twitter feed is too fun, I'm reserving this post for some real gems: https://twitter.com/DFCobb/status/739149685101887488 https://twitter.com/DFCobb/status/671703602763841536 https://twitter.com/DFCobb/status/660105151642910720 https://twitter.com/DFCobb/status/657026710450405377 https://twitter.com/DFCobb/status/653341379947532288 https://twitter.com/DFCobb/status/652903822650699776 This one is amazing. Inferior Third Season posted:I get really uncomfortable with the "biology" arguments. Like when people were arguing over whether being gay was a choice or something they were born as. It shouldn't matter, and pretending it does puts everything into outdated religious frameworks of whether something is acceptable or sinful. My mother believes homosexuality is a choice and extremely dangerous because the gay agenda threatens to turn us all gay and that'll be the end of the human race. She also believes that gay men actively seek out rich men to turn gay to get their money. Like, yeah, ultimately it shouldn't matter, but to some people the possibility of it being a choice is something that threatens the very existence of society. Convincing them that it's not a choice is probably the only way to get them to change their minds. Not that I've had any success changing her mind...

On the other hand, it literally should not matter in the slightest because either way homosexuals should just be treated like everyone else, and I don't want to endorse that stupid birth vs. choice argument at all. not emptyquoting. because for real it shouldn't matter whether or not being gay or being transgender is something you choose. It's not like being autistic or mentally ill - treating someone badly for having a mental illness is lovely, but it's also unambiguously negative. The same is not true of being trans or being gay.
