Whole thing is stupider than anything Iannucci could come up with.

It also shows their cowardice and lack of principles I think - it strikes me now that the likely thought process is 'well in this situation I wouldn't care what the membership said, I'd just cave to the bullying and follow orders'. They just can;t comprehend someone who doesn't cave because he believes in the principles he stood for when he got the job.

Soft cuddly Jeremy was supposed to step down and right now Tristam/Chucka/Hillary or whoever were supposed to be in charge without an internal party election. Right now they were supposed to be saying "we truly understand why the working class hate migrants and that it is ok", and then bracing the party to defend Blair's legacy from Chilcot. This was not supposed to happen, as they simply did not expect him to stay. Their entire political machination was based entirely on their opponent doing exactly what they wanted him to do. These inept fuckers looked at Jeremy Corbyn's political history and thought, "yeah, there is a man who will back down". Oddly they are victims of their own, "Corbyn isn't strong enough to be leader" narrative. Edit: Interestingly, I imagine that they would also currently be styling the Labour party as the party of Europe, and using that to realign to the center to rope in both the young, and business interests. They are probably furious that this golden opportunity to pinch The City from the Conservatives is being squandered. Edit, edit: Oddly that would probably represent one of the few paths to genuinely staying in europe. A centerist pro EU Labour party, with the backing of the city and the young, winning a general election on an explicit anti-brexit platform. the funniest thing is them pretending they have lost confidence in him like theyve given him a fair shot but they have reluctantly concluded that he has to go when they have all been constantly running their mouths to the press about treachery and backstabbing since before they lost the leadership contest

Corbyn's staring down of these idiots shows a lot of spine and a degree of willpower that makes him look like an excellent leader. My wife just joined up to the Labour party and gave her reason as supporting Corbyn, and she is usually totally apolitical. She comes from Romania which is the main country for sleazy, bottom-feeding politics, but she said what the PLP is doing is revolting even by Romanian standards.

Every headline helpfully treated each resignation as a shocking new twist They just need the cheek to go for it - I mean it was literally outlined in a newspaper article two weeks before, but they weren't called out on it when it happened. Well I mean in general - if people watch the news to find out what's going on and be informed, and they get this simplistic storyline about Bad Corbyn and the noble rebels, that's what they'll know about the situation. A lot of people have no reason to suspect anything else The problem is TV news treats everything like a soap, with DRAMATIC EVENTS and NEW TWISTS and it's obviously used as a PR outlet for those with influence. Even ignoring a desire for the status quo, I'm sure the Blairite factions and their organisations have far more influence and connections than Corbyn and his allies

There's been so much made of the 'young people didn't bother to vote' stat in all of the political discussion I've seen, so surely an indication that this is completely wrong is more important than "young people cried over result"

Yeah even if the plotters plans had come to fruition they would have had to deal with: The left wing of the party quitting in disgust; a report calling them the party of Warcrimes without being able to reasonably claim they have broken from the past; the working class being further confused by them mixing both pro-eu and anti-immigration rhetoric; and the support of the city and the youth would still not guaranteed as the former are and will always be suspicious and many of the latter are also pro-Corbyn. I'm not saying their plan was a good one, but probably what was going on in their heads. Nor would I personally have supported it, I'm still sticking with grandpa.
