I don't know why you want there to be some weird china conspiracy theory. Yeah, there is a coastal flood happening, but look at all the places they COULD be showing movies:

Look how far that entire city goes!

It's not a conspiracy, it's "this company from a country notorious for its corruption is posting suspicious numbers for the movie it co-financed in an industry where there is regional precedent for ticket sales being forged"

And what's more, the cinemas themselves don't need to be flooded for the floods to impact movie attendance you simpleton. If your apartment is flooded, you probably aren't going to the movies. If your streets are flooded, you probably aren't going to the movies. If the subways are flooded, you probably aren't going to the movies. If the power is out because of the flooding, you probably aren't going to the movies. If food and gasoline are difficult to access, you probably aren't going to the movies. There are tons of ways that a natural disaster affects theater attendance in ways that aren't "the screen is literally underwater." People loving died in this flood.

Did some people see the movie in this time? Yeah, probably, but sold out cinemas during a natural disaster is ridiculous on its very face. And according to this article, the flooded city supposedly actually had above-average showings for its screenings that day, 130 vs the average of 93.

Go to google maps and look at Liuzhou from space. The entire city is built close to the river banks.

Also lol gotcha, unless it's literally Mad Max, flooding doesn't affect theatre attendence.

I just hope they explain the backstory a bit more. A lot of people who didn't play the games/read the books didn't understand why the orcs were invading, how Medivh got corrupted, etc. I bet it was very confusing.

Does it really matter all that much?

I thought it was a little refreshing to have the "origin" movie not be 45 minutes of worldbuilding and setup.

No but just like Steve2911 says:

Steve2911 posted:

Yeah another 10 minutes at the front to show life on Draenor a bit and 2 minutes at the end to build up the 'Whoever corrupted Medivh must be a force to be reckoned with. Come back for the sequel!' element would've been nice.

I went with friends who hadn't played the game and they left with a lot of questions (that won't be answered if the story just goes on). I mean I liked the pace too, but there's even no mentioning of Sargeras or Kil'Jaeden? Maybe at least let the audience know that they're leaving Draenor because they corrupted it with their magic to kill the Draenei (I know that was mentioned, but it was quickly skimped over) and tell us why they attack the Draenei.

Maybe as a fan of the lore I'm just making this out to be a bigger problem than it is, but I really think this part is quite important to the story, it's the very reason everyting is happening. Of course I do understand that making a movie about alliance vs horde is more interesting, but still... A short intro would've been nice.

My favorite part is at the beginning they have an Orc and a human fighting each other with a narrator saying something to the effect of orcs and humans have always fought and will for eternity. Cut to present and nobody knows what the gently caress an Orc is.

Did you miss the part of the narration where he says, explicitly, "But there was a time when my people didn't even know what orcs were" and the whole movie is a flashback from that?

The Dark Portal is a weird thing. On the Azeroth side of Warcraft, it's a decent size; big, but nothing crazy. On the Draenor side, it's even bigger. In the CG cutscenes for Warlords of Draenor, it's this fuckoff huge thing hundreds of feet tall.

Ask Why, Asshole
Lots of things in the MMO are just representations of how things actually are in the fiction. Otherwise places like Stormwind, which is supposed to house thousands and thousands of people, would be huge and frustrating for players to walk around.

Likewise, a lot of things in the movie are representations of playing wow. Like the characters hopping on griphons and just flying 5 minutes to the next important location. Something i actually enjoyed a ton.

It was green when it linked to regular Draenor. Those screenshots are from Warlords of Draenor, which feature the Dark Portal being used to link to an alternate timeline and turn it red rather than green. It's still green on the other side of regular timeline Draenor.

Right, and he's like 0 months old, and the Horde still has to invade the rest of the world and lose. Right now Gul'Dan is still in charge and Doomhammer just took over official chieftain duties. So we are still about 20 years behind Warcraft 3.

Canonically, the Azeroth side of the Portal is supposed to be just as big but they probably didn't want to make the resources for it in Vanilla and it just stuck.
