That would depend on if the Sapphire version shows the same linked behavior between the PCIe slot and cable power, if it's still doing that and the slot power has not been greatly lowered I could see the problem persisting.

I've decided I'm going to create a GPU company, and while our performance may be middling our company will be built on a guarantee: there will be stock for you to buy one. We will achieve this guarantee by implementing a technology to determine whether the card is being used to make BitCoins and setting the host PC on fire if it is.

Remember, before benchmarks came out, that we said AMD must be taking a loss on every RX480 sold? It would seem the $200 pricing is entirely consistent with its performance.

If they can come up with a convincing fix for the power through the PCIe slot issue, there's no problem with recommending it at the price it launched at.

And it's not like AMD can announce "insurance" against power issues since that's essentially inviting people to turn their computers into paperweights so Mama AMD can furnish them with a free upgrade. I'd bet money one of the "burned ones" already has a class action suit in the works.
