I haven't bought Pikmin 3 yet, but I probably will after I grab New Super Mario Bros. U and a pro controller.

Guy Mann posted:Darkness 2 was a pretty alright arcadey shooter considering it wasn't made by Starbreeze but the whole thing has such a hilarious 90s indie comic vibe compared to the original game. Like there's an entire subplot through the entire game where between levels you keep waking up in an asylum where you and all the other characters are patients and inmates and you never know if it's all a dream or not, and at the end of the game you run into...this thing. funny thing is thats less sexualized then the angulus was in the comics. the other had lesbian thralls and was more naked, but that was the 90s. I think starbreez and these dudes did a good job at what made the comic good but they also took out a bunch of stuff that made the comic lovely. most of the sexualized stuff is gone except for the angelus and that one "club" but the club just made me feel sad because it was clear it was some depressing abusive hell hole. Jackie is alot more likable in the games, in the comics, all he does is gently caress around and then doesn't(darkness kills you if you get someone pregnant) he was also just a general 90s protag dickhead. So yeah games are great and i hope they make a new one someday.

I completely forgot about the weird insane asylum stuff in the second Darkness game. The game is fun a hell but the Franbow stuff is very out of place in a fps.

The worst part about all the light and dark stuff like the traps being exorbitantly expensive is that it isn't even some hidden optional thing that you can ignore while playing through the game. You already know this but for anyone who doesn't the game at various points after you beat a light or dark enemy goes "SURE WOULD BE COOL IF YOU COULD CAPTURE THESE DUDES HUH?" but the kids playing are poo poo out of luck because all the stores carried by spring of 2015 were water traps and prices were already though the roof online. Lizard Wizard posted:skylanders is disgusting. I would have been so on this poo poo if it the tech had been around in earlier generations. The gimmick of having something from the outside world affecting the game has been around for a while and it's always been...kinda neat? Like most people would probably agree with the idea that the most interesting part of playing Monster Rancher was always that moment when you loaded a random CD to see what monster you got.

The single player is really easy - probably because they had to target a young audience - so if you want a good challenge, you need to get a friend to play with or go online.

I just wanna get the light & dark expansion sets for skylanders because I think the heroes look neat enough and there is content for the heroes gated behind the extra levels included in those expansions. I hope that one day the prices will go down. I was watching an ebay listing that was at 36 bucks last night and now it is at 91 :\ and people are buying them at such high prices so sellers are going to continue to sell them at higher and higher prices. I'm sure the prices wll go down eventually but it'd be cool to maybe get something like that relatively cheap now instead of later, but oh well.

Hey chat thread, I can't figure out how to disable the vibration on my Xbox One controller on PC. From what I read you have to do it within each individual game, but some games don't sem to have that option, like Hotline Miami 2. Also what's the best way to connect a PS3 controller to a PC these days?

Though goons in the thread recomend a dongle that lets you use a wired connection iirc. I lurked that thread thinking about getting it for my brothers. Youre actually probably better off because it halves the fps for local play.

mutata posted:More specifically, mipmapping will blend between one size of texture to its half size as the camera gets further away, continuing down until it reaches a 1x1 single pixel average color. It blends using bilinear or trilinear filtering to bleed or blur between the 2 versions smoothly (as opposed to just drawing a sharp border between the 2 versions). It increases quality and render time, since the engine can show smaller, lighter textures for less important (read further away) objects, but it DOES take more memory, as I understand it (up to 33-ish percent more) since it has to generate and store many different-sized versions of a texture file. Do you remember that hallway in Mario 64 where when you walk in it looks like there's a painting of Peach but when you get close it turns into Bowser? That's mip-mapping. The smaller far away texture is the picture of peach and closeup texture is bowser so as the camera gets closer to the polygonal surface it slowly blends the lower resolution texture into the higher resolution one.

I really enjoyed The Darkness and Darkness 2 even moreso, because the latter sets you up for a rip-roarin arcade shooter where you get XP for slicing dudes in half with trash can lids and car doors using your magical Solidus Snake hell tentacles... and then wham, suddenly poo poo gets deep with emotions and feelings of uncertainty that you never would have expected from it!

I admit I'd laugh so hard if it still railroaded you somehow after everyone lost their poo poo for the previews but it doesn't look like there's anything significant holding you back this time. Skyward Sword was one of the worst games I ever loving played on a Nintendo because of the sheer backtracking to the same 3 areas under the eye of that robot rear end in a top hat and BotW seems like it will be the complete opposite of that.
