The simulants in Perfect Dark, notably their personalities. Pacifist sims disarm players and grab their guns and run off. Rocket sims use explosives at all times, regardless if they'll kill teammates or even themselves. Judge sims will go after the player in first place to even the playing field, while prey sims do the opposite to rack up their score. Coward sims run off if you have a better weapon, but will gladly shoot at you if they got a better weapon. My favorite is the venge sim who will go after whoever killed them last, even if its a teammate. Make an entire team of venge sims and watch the infighting

Overwatch doesn't give you doubles of cosmetics, it instead just gives you currency to buy other cosmetics with. I would've been REALLY disappointed if it gave me another highlight intro for Torbjorn, one of the two heroes I don't use, as the only purple-rarity things I've ever gotten. But nah, it just gave me cash I could use to get more fancy poo poo for Symmetra!

The Nopon in Xenoblade Chronicles X are fairly interesting just through exploring the part of Mira that they live in. In one area you see a large catwalk made of vines that you reach by running up a Spiraling tree trunk, and when you reach it it is called the "Nopon Braid Bridge" implying that the Nopon built it, or at least guided it's growth, themselves. I like that kind of environmental storytelling. I also like the way their relationship chart updates in the affinity chart when the Tatsu is reunited with his mother. A lot of the time they update with descriptions like x------->Has respect for------->Y, or z------>Mother to------->A. but Tatsu and his mother get "Mummypon" and "Sonnypon"

And certainly better than shoehorning in a trading system where I'd get even less for a thing for an unpopular hero, while desperately trying to trade up for a somewhat-okay item for a hero I like that's pretty popular (probably Mei or Reaper; at the very least most of my favorite heroes aren't the popular ones). And that's saying nothing of when I'd inevitably get a pile of player icons or unpopular sprays I'd never be able to offload. The exchange rate could be better, yeah, but I like that they at least tried, and the system mostly works well.

Cleretic posted:The exchange rate could be better, yeah, but I like that they at least tried, and the system mostly works well. Yeah, it doesn't need a trading system or anything, just a better exchange rate. Give us back half the items worths in coins, or a third. That'd make it instantly less poo poo, and like Neddy said, the sheer number of sprays makes it unlikely you're going to get a duplicate too often anyway, so what's the harm in upping the coin reward for a duplicate skin or victory pose? Especially if they plan on expanding the hero lineup (and therefore moire sprays/skins/poo poo)

Okay, so I've been playing the .hack GU games again since I've never finished the trilogy and there's one thing I really like about the series. They manage to get the internet personalities really accurate and still surprisingly relevant despite being PS2 games. Like, the whole game takes place inside an MMO and it's full of anime bullshit. But one of the side things is that there's a forum you read and some of the posts have information on enemies and locations, or are related to the plot. A lot of it is just pointless fluff about the setting though like people arguing about which video game PVP super star is the best and how anyone who doesn't like them should go die. Just like real life e-sports fans. Also a lot of the NPCs are the same people you see posting on the little forums thing and if you talk to them as the story progresses a lot of them have their own weird little storylines going on. My favorite so far is an old guy who takes PVP super seriously and declares another guy his eternal rival. The other guy is a fourth grader who's response is basically "Wow, that's really sad."

In The Witcher 3, you are a member of a Witcher school, Wolf, but can craft and use equipment from other schools to suit different play styles. I'm currently using all the stuff from the Cat school. In one part of the game, you can encounter another witcher, this one from that Cat school, and he commented on my identity problems as I approached. The game is full of little details that get paid attention to, and I'm wishing I hadn't waited so long to get it.

In Xenoblade Chronicles X I'm really enjoying exploring the world, and trying to figure out how to get to the nodes without a Skell (Haven't unlocked one yet.) All the areas are really pretty and really well put together, and I love the feeling of weaving between hordes of Level 50 animals while trying to find the next node. It actually feels like real wildlife due to the idea of "Just leave it alone, don't antagonise it and it won't bother you..."

This Pokemon Go thing is something I'm not into. My wife has it, and was taking a look for pokemon while we were driving to the shops with the kids to get some groceries. On the way, a pokemon appeared, but she couldn't catch it because I was driving too fast. But her "ooh, a pokemon" got our eldest, who is 4 interested. He wanted to see. My wife showed him but by that time we'd arrived at the shops. She went in with our other son, and while we stayed in the car. He kept hold of the phone and looked around for pokemon, but didn't find any. On the way home he was looking for pokemon but not finding any, so I made a turn early and headed for the local cultural center, because I've heard they are attracted to geo-spots or something, and I figured some of the local landmarks might pop. I don't rerally understand how it all works, but whatever. They found a geodude (?) near the war memorial but lost it because I had to keep driving (traffic). We didn't find any more, so headed home. But then at the end of our street another one popped so I quickly pulled over and he found it and managed to capture a pidgie (i think, it looked like a chicken). Well the absolute unbridled excitement in his voice and the squeals of pure delight made the whole thing worth it. Seeing my kids light up like that is the little thing about that game I love. Edit: To be clear I don't give a poo poo about pokemon but even grumpy old me got caught up in his excitement at his first catch. princecoo has a new favorite as of 09:50 on Jul 15, 2016 |

There's a puzzle in The Talos Principle (a fantastic game) called Nexus, and usually the puzzle names in that game provide some kind of fair but obtuse hint about how to solve them. Some are obvious (Lock Yourself In requires locking yourself into a room and using a laser beam to exit via the other side for example), others are not. Nexus is a laser beam maze puzzle, and is fairly unique in that the name provides no hint whatsoever about how to solve it. ...unless you look at the solution from above.

Pokémon GO is good for people who are into Pokémon enough to want to go out and walk around looking for them, but if you prefer the whole battling aspect rather than the discovery of new Pokémon then yeah, I can totally get not enjoying it. Its so great to hear stories about kids who are having a ball with it though, and from what I've heard and seen so far the community of people playing it has been really supportive and friendly to each other. I guess my little thing is how the game is affecting people positively in real life!

The park near my work is full of people hunting pokemon or hitting the 4-5 closely packed pokestops. The stops almost always seem to have lures up. It's nice seeing people out in the sun, even in the middle of winter. People are definitely getting more fresh air playing this than any other game. It's pretty cool seeing strangers playing the same ARG as you.

In Assassins Creed Syndicate, Evie and Jacob will give standard commands to the horse like 'Come on' or 'Whoa!' but if you just trot along they'll give a little bit of encouragement to the horse, my favourite being Jacob saying 'Who's a good horse? You are.'

I'm in the same boat of thinking Pokemon Go is generally pretty mediocre, but I do think it's great that it's so ubiquitous regardless. I've seen plenty of mediocre games become bigger than they should be given their own merits--FNAF comes to mind, but it's not alone--but this one is so unquestionably a great influence on people's health that I can't help but love it.

Yeah you don't play GO because of the actual core gameplay, you play it because it gives you and your friends motivation and a socially-acceptable excuse to walk around for fun and casually meet people with a common interest. Actually, I do have to give the game credit for the way that its systems work together to encourage people to congregate in safe, public places. There are spots of tall grass on your map where you're much more likely to find a pokemon which are dynamically based on foot traffic in the area and the various gyms and pokecenters are based on datamining public landmark information and user submissions from their last game, so while there are a few horror stories of people trespassing on private property places like parks and shopping centers and college campuses are by far the easiest and best way to catch 'mons.

In Monster Hunter Generations one of the new monsters you fight is this big owl, and it's got amazing animations. It seems to do it more often after you've pissed it off, but before it attacks someone, there's a good chance it'll turn its head to look at them and give them the owl version of before turning the rest of its body and hauling rear end. Usually charges that person down and knocks them the gently caress over. It's great! Also, Generations is basically Monster Hunter: Little Things in Games Edition. Like the writing. Or all the new skills. Or all of the quality of life improvements. Or the new meownster hunters gathering thing.
